To all of you in The Lone Star State, where did/do you take your Prius for the state inspection? Our '06 is due it's first one and I am VERY hesitant about taking it a local shop. I see plenty of Prii in the DFW area, so they have to be going somewhere :). Dealership the best bet?

My apologies if this has been covered extensively, I did a search but could not find the answer I was looking for...

Go to a quick inspection place. My experience is that they aren't trying to sell much. They all do the same inspection and I have never had a problem with inspections. Ask locally who to trust. The Prii will purr right through the test!

Well...I'm not worried at the price or the fact that the Prius will breeze right thru it...I've been thru plenty of inspections with "normal" cars in Texas, I'm hesitant that the technician hasn't ever actually touched a hybrid before, let lone putting it thru the emissions testing (see the thread about the poor lady from Atlanta). Just thought a few fellow Texans may have been thru this, guess I'll call around...

Not to throw you under the proverbial bus, la cucaracha, but I noticed in your avatar that you have an '08 Prius. I'm guessing you haven't gone thru this...yes?

Hahahaha, this is Texas, emissions are BS, haven't you seen all the smoking cars in this state, and I bet they all passed "inspection".

Georgia has some kind of stupid inspection system that probably is more of an electronic boondoggle than it is a good inspection, I wouldn't worry too much about the Texas inspection, and of course the inspection cost is the same everywhere.

I hear 'ya!! Nothing irritates me more than seeing a POS going down the road with an all-but-spider-webbed windshield, taped on tailights, one working headlight and smoking like a chimney with a "valid" inspection sticker!

I take mine to Richardson Toyota. A dealer at least has a better chance of knowing how to start, stop and drive the car.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! I'll take it to a dealer for the inspection. I emailed Don Davis Toyota in Arlington about doing a state inspection and...shockingly, they didn't reply. When's that last time you EVER heard of a dealer not responding to an email or request?? LOL.

I'm shocked, shocked. I suppose that not every dealer is equipped to perform state inspections, but if one won't bother to answer a simple question then f!!ck 'im.

That's where I bought my car, and where I take it for 5K maintenance. They seem to be pretty decent, but still a bit on the sleazy side.

    Sleazy how?

I had to start leaving a big sign in the window reading
    DO NOT WASH
    DO NOT ROTATE TIRES
    DO NOT INFLATE TIRES
They have a menu of stuff that they just expect to do on every oil job and exceptions are hard to transmit verbally.

After getting confirmations from two service writers and the service manager they still f!!cked up two rims by using hammer-on weights instead of the correct tape-on weights. I got new rims from them for that, plus I'll not buy tires from them again.
