Old news, considering there's a topic called "Prius Outdoes HUMMER in Environmental Damage".

Go watch the debate there, and remember that you just posted an editorial. Anyone can write an editorial.

Ancient News: just search here for

    "Dust to Dust"

    and the Sudbury Nickel site

you will find both articles to be very bogus

thanks for your patience, i see that i will get bashed verrrry soooon by bitchy people
  4. micheal
Just so you know, people generally don't try to be bitchy or bash people early on.

But neither do people like rehash the same old article over and over (and yes, I know the search function can be a pain in the buttocks.).

sure they do, i just searched "dust to dust". ouch.
  6. micheal
(Assuming you were referring to people not trying to bitchy part of my post)

I did use generally for good reason.

You have no idea how many trolls or others just looking to spread disinformation or a fight Priuschat gets. People are not very tolerant of this behavior (and neither should they be IMO). Course, sometimes people do jump to conclusions when the first one or two posts are iffy ones. Most are willing to apologize if these conclusions are found to be hasty.

One person in a thread related to the same disinformation that we had been discussing for weeks hardly makes a compelling case for people always trying to be bitchy or bashy to new posters. Now venturing in FHOP is not for the faint at heart or new poster as things can get pretty heated in there.

(if replying to the rehashing, those that discuss the iterations of articles are not the same people in each thread).

Newyawka, don't get disheartened. By the way, I just got the joke in your name. :)

You see, some of us are starting to get really seriously tired of all the wrongly negative publicity the Prius and hybrids in general have been receiving. Some of us got tired of it years ago. Here is a very short list of the silliness we've been hit with by people claiming to be media:
    - Hybrid batteries will kill people with pacemakers
    - The Prius is more proned to be struck by lightening
    - Emergency Response personnel will not help people in a hybrid due to the risk of electrocution
    - Hybrids will not pay for themselves
    - It takes more effort to make a hybrid than conventional cars
    - Toyota is solely responsible for the Sudsbury plant
    There are many, many more.

Normally, we try to politely let people know when they've stumbled upon old news. Unfortunately, sometimes we have a bad day and our response is less than friendly (guilty at times). The interesting part is that when we attempt to refute the intentional misinformation, we are called bullies and rude and closed-minded and harsh.

    A couple of points:

I should have spelled it "Sudbury"

My contempt is not aimed at the newbies, but rather the anti-hybrid people pumping these urban myths. Some of us are seeing Sudbury and "Dust to Dust" to the point we know the content of these propaganda pieces by heart.

This says a lot about the people that intentionally promote these articles - if they were right, would not just the truth suffice?

Huh. I just did a search on the board for "Dust to Dust", and here are the folks who posted this article, how many posts they have, and when they posted it:

    nofreetime - 9 - 4/23/06
    DaveG - 772 - 7/19/06
    prius04 - 1153 - 7/19/06
    Albertus - 45 - 2/28/07
    khool-H - 1 - 3/9/07
    liquidsoapdispenser - 7 - 3/14/07
    newyawka - 11 - 3/19/07
    Stargazer 7 - 2 - 3/22/07
    Surfer - 8 - 3/30/07
    Somechic - 138 - 4/4/07

    Interesting...

Even more interesting when you consider that people have also posted this without using the phrase "dust to dust"...

Edited to add another to the list

I think it would be wrong to assume that everyone who posts about this article is intentionally attempting to stir things up. I can imagine a scenario in which someone seriously interested in the Prius stumbles upon one of the many disinformational media reports. Then they bounce it off one of the hybrid sites to check it's accuracy or not.
  11. Stev0
I know we have a "debunk rumors about the Prius" thread, but this one in specific should be a sticky topic somewhere. I would bet my Prius that someone comes along within two weeks starting a new thread about this.
  12. TonyPSchaefer
If I manage to squash all such posts for at least two weeks can I have it?

You may be right. But then I would think that those genuinely interested in the truth, and familiar and comfortable with web forums, would be more inclined to search before shooting from the hip.
  14. Chuck.
Sometimes it's just harder to communitate on the net postively.

Yes, there are innocent questions about Sudbury, "Dust to Dust", and countless non-automotive urban myths.

Sorry if I seemed unfriendly to non-trolls.

While it is indeed an old article, it unfortunately appears to still be a contemporary topic - it just showed up on Slashdot today, http://hardware.slashdot.org/hardware/07/03/20/1858204.shtml. (And was suitably pummeled - surprising, geeks appear to drive Prius.) Annoying to rehash, but the stupid thing isn't dead yet...

And it never will die. Like I said in one of the other posts about this, file it somewhere with the dying kid who is collecting postcards and the Neiman Marcus cookie recipe.
  17. NuShrike
Hopefully, hitting Slashdot (a big time, high viewership site) and having it pummeled there might sufficiently keep it from coming back out of its alternate reality hole in noticeable fashion again.

Strangely at the same time, CNN/Money/Consumer Reports recently were finally positive about the Prius.

Well, a version of this hit piece has now been published in the editorial pages of Investor's Business Daily:

    Not Easy Being Green
  19. TonyPSchaefer
Every time I've seen this article, it's been in the "Editorials and Opinions" column. And there's never a sentence fragment that reads, "it's my opinion" or "from what I've researched."
This only stands to prove that it's not fact-based.
