I walk dogs and pet sit. SOmetimes people go out of town for a week and leave a houseful of critters. Its cheaper to have someone come and take care of them than to kennel them. Thats where i come in. I get paid per visit plus mileage. Last month, i made 113 dollars just on the mileage because of using the prius. i made that much, thats not just what i got paid for mileage. not bad at all.

I once drove my car from Adelaide to Port Augusta and back for work, they reinbursed my mileage at a fixed rate.
I covered about 600km on the trip for which I was paid then drove to work for 2 or 3 days before filling up. I used a total of 41 litres of fuel which cost between $50 and $60 and I was paid $407 for the trip. Not bad and it's tax free.

How do I do that? I drove about 3,000 miles for work since November. I got reimbursed by my company at the standard IRS rate of 54.9 cents per mile . . . I can get back even more!?

    Nope, they did.
if they pay you mileage, then they claim it and you cant.

Yep. The monies had to be reported one way or another.

Yes, if your company pays you for mileage (at the Federal rate), they will be claiming the deduction, and thus you cannot. If they do not reimburse you, you can claim your mileage at the Federal rate.

I think, also, if your company reimburses you at less than the Federal rate, you can claim the difference, but I'm not sure. IANACPA (I Am Not A CPA).

Oh, and to the OP: Dogs in your car? Slobber and hair and dog smell? I'd try to find something to cover the seats with, and probably get a few of those old army wool blankets to lay over the back and the folded down seats. Get some good cleaning products and clean it often. Letting it get all dirty and smelly will seriously degrade resale value.

Sounds like the OP is a sort of a "house-sitter" that comes to the pet owners home to care for the pets and walk them, not to transport them.
