Vehicle Stability Control on my Prius?

My wife and I are both of the habit that after the first snow storm, we take each of our vehicles to an un-plowed parking lot. Gun it, brake hard. Do some forced skidding, tight turns, etc, to get the feel of the vehicle's responsiveness when it slides on ice. We taught our children to drive and they each do the same at the beginning of winter.

With the Prius, there is an alarm that sounds and a indicator that flashes on the dash. Indicating that the vehicle has sensed ice ans it is doing it's thing.

Also, whenever you drive on ice [whether an iced-over road or a frozen lake/pond] when the Prius feels ice, ding-ding and that dash indicator comes on.

In the middle of winter, we see it routinely.

 

Your Prius definitely has stability control.

As ForestBeekeeper said, it will beep at you if you push the limits.

 

I always think of it as Pearl S is saying "oh my god, you are sliding around a corner!". Which I purposely do often in winter.

It was back in the GII days (2006 or 2007 as I recall) that Toyota decided all Prius would have VSC. Part of their "All our vehicles are very safe" campaign.

 

Nice to know...can't wait for snow.

 

Isn't stability control mandated on all US vehicles?

According to Wikipedia it was made mandatory for all vehicles under 10,000 lbs effective the 2012 model year.
