Just got our new prius and was offered an extended warranty of course. Their offer,
however, was to return our money if we didn't use the warranty. You can pay for
any repairs and save your receipts and if you go over the amount you paid for the
warranty then turn them in - otherwise get your refund. Did anyone take them up on
this offer? Sounds like it would provide peace of mind, but then toyota's very seldom
    need these repairs.

sounds like their free tires for life deal. read the small print. do you have to bring the car to their dealership every 5000 miles for their exorbitant service???

There is no way on the planet I would ever buy a third party extended warranty for a car. Don't do it.

Take your time deciding on buying an extended warranty. You can purchase it anytime during the standard 3 year/36000 mile warranty period. Personally I never buy the extended warranty as I think they are a rip-off.

they said this was provided by toyota and in order to get the refund you would
have to get it at that time - but - you have 60 days to cancel it. we NEVER buy
extended warranties for anything but all this electrical stuff scared me.
we asked about the checkups at their dealership and they said it didn't matter.
gonna have to go back over it with a fine tooth comb for sure. the finance guy at
first said it was $2,500 and we said noo, so he reduced the price to $1,500.
we decided to get it and research it on here since we could cancel and not lose
    our money.

BTW - the finance guy said this warranty is provided by toyota and not to all dealerships.
they are "trying it out on certain dealerships", and this one was one of the ones chosen
    for this particular warranty.

Smells car dealer fishy. It may not actually be a Toyota extended warranty. Definitely something weird. G

As described, they are asking you to give them a $1500 loan, interest free, for seven years. What kind of a deal is that? Save your money. The Prius is one of the most reliable cars available.

If you absolutely want to pay $1000 for "peace of mind", wait until the factory warranty is nearly gone and then buy the extended warranty from a seller on this site.
