Sort of guilty.....but here is why. My Dad was a gunsmith. He saw many customers with various scars, missing fingers and toes over his career. He made the great remark "Guns only go off accidentally while being cleaned". It turns out that the vast majority of gun owners are responsible and safe. But those that are not safe have an intense propensity to hide the truth when they do something dumb, if not deadly.
So if you do something dumb in a car, then the reporting options are:
    1) The steering went bad.
    2) The brakes didn't work.
    3) The car accelerated suddenly.
    4) I did something stupid.

Given that the true purpose of the report is to hide the truth, which of the above options is the most likely to be reported. There certainly can be unintended acceleration, but all investigations or the Prius so far have not found something systematic beyond car mats. (Thanks for the links.)

I'm not sure how much longer BP is going to be in "the top 10". Away from home this weekend the big stories were:

    1. Gary Coleman is dead.
    2. Rolling Stone Magazine put out some Top 500 List. I heard "Satisfaction" is #2.

Oil is going to be gushing into the Gulf for at least many months. It's not news. Black goop is going to be washing up on shores. It's not news.

People are poor & hungry in Haiti. It's not news.

They haven't exhausted the BP possibilities, yet. Photos of people wiping oil off of herons, interviews with AlGore, and Janine Garofolo, as well as representatives from the other side, followed by round table debates trying to assign some theoretical version of actual blame.

Barring some other news that might displace it, we will have a spectacle worthy of Jerry Springer for at least another 2 weeks, before BP fades into the background. It's the same template they followed with the Toyota "problems," OJ Simpson, and JonBenet, etc.

100% right, may add #5. "I am going to jail for this." I haven't changed mats or anything else, until I see a way the pedal could get stuck. Of course my mats are hooked on, as designed.

People have short attention spans, and need new things to talk about.

Here in LA its all about "Dancing with the Stars", and BP oil leak. Toyota? Haven't heard much lately. Seriously, Channel 7 Eyewitless News has a nightly update on "Dancing with the Stars", as if we care.
