OK Prius plug in experts, which steering assembly is being used on the plug ins, particularly the advanced plug in? If I order this car, do I get the same nice tight steering ratio of my Prius V, or the lower end steering assembly? Please tell me they would not short change people on the EPS assembly on a $40,000 car!
I'm just warning everyone, if I don't have an answer by the end of the day, I'm going to start posting the same question all over the board! Gotta have that brushless EPS motor and tight steering ratio. Could be a good test for Erica, in her new role as queen of Prius Team!
Yes there are two. A nice one and a horrid, cheap, nasty unreliable one. I'm at 57k miles and about to have my second steering column fitted (under warranty which is 60k miles in the UK). At £1,300/$2,000 to replace I know that I'll be getting rid of the car by the time it needs another one out of warranty.
I thought I saw somewhere it'd be the brushless w/ the better rack, but I wouldn't put money on that just yet. I did test the turning-circle on the plug-in while in SF, and it did seem tighter than the demo unit, but in turn, also seemed like more turns lock-to-lock to get there.
Online specs list same 34.2 turning circle as regular Prius. I guess that doesn't rule out the better assembly. Nobody seems to think its a big deal anyway, but it would be nice to confirm 1 way or the other.
