Who will be the first to drive their 2010 in snow?

With winter approaching rapidly I am wondering who is going to be the first to drive their GenIII in the snow. If I had one I would probably be the first but I don't. So who is next??? Don't forget about pics!!!

I'm sure I'll get there, but I'm happy to let someone else win this race.

I'm happy I have a garage and can work from home when I need to, and snow creates a big need to.

I don't think it's the day of the snow you'll have to worry about as much as the following days when those frozen chunks of ice on the road smack that low scoop on the front

Probably not, I am out the door @ 6:30 am.

I suspect we will have to deal with the black ice first. But I plan to have studded snowtires on before that happens. I usually call in the first heavy snowfall to let nature sort out the newbies on the road.

Good idea, in theory. In practice, I find it usually takes a few - or more - storms to train those newbies. And then, of course, there are the newbies who call in as many times as they can get away with it...you never know when they'll show up!

i will be leaving NC at christmas to go to MI all the way up to Cheyboygan. Last year i ran into a bad ice storm and then had to drive 100 miles on a icy freeway to get all the way to my parents. I wondering how this car does in the MI winters. i guess i'll find out.

Our first snow storm is usually early to mid September, so we might be. But I recall there's a reader from Leadville who will probably get snow even before I do.

The only problem with your theory is that I drove my GenII in snow yesterday. I found some up north along the haul road. That was quite the adventure.

Well I have already bought my snowtires and they are sitting and waiting in my garage! Syracuse is notorious for snowy winters, but I am sure Colorado has us beat by a long shot!

100 miles of icy freeway sounds about normal for Michigan winter driving. Cheyboygan gets about the same weather we do, only without as much snow. In our case we have to drive and hour and a half in good weather before we get to the highway. In bad weather we might not make it that far.

If they predict snow I'll break out the chains and put them on the truck. If it does not snow I drive the prius and if it does I'll drive the truck.

You need chains to drive in a couple inches of snow??? lol jk.

Somebody should have had their Gen3 in leftover snow already. The time, long ago, when I bought a car the first week of July, it met a high mountain snowdrift on its first day.

Finding enough snow to test its winter handling is another matter.

I bought Bridgestone Blizzak tires. I am still on the fence as to whether buy new rims for them or to just swap out the summer tires on the OEM rims.

Hopefully I won't be! With the cold summer we've had, I'm hoping the snow holds off until Thanksgiving or later.

What snow tires did you buy? From the dealer? With wheels? If not with wheels, do you know cost to switch tires for winter? This is my main concern b4 buying here in cambridge, MA.

I picked up a set of steel wheels (search for "steel wheels" to find the info). I am still looking for studded snow tires... not in stock currently up here believe it or not. The Hanooks looked nice though.

I bought Bridgestone Blizzak tires from Firestone. They quoted around $50-60 to put the snowtires on my existing wheels and again to remove them in the spring, so about $100-120 to do this every season. So I am not sure whether to buy new wheels for the snow tires or not, and then not have the tire pressure sensors in the winter (and the blinking red light!) Anyone's opinion on this would be appreciated.
