Will the new Prius be a 2008 or 2009 at this point?

I am a little confused. From what we know at this point, will the new Prius be out in 2007 as a 2008 or be out in 2008 as a 2009?

My car has 135,000 on it now (Jetta) and I am wondering it is going to make to 2008...

I don't know when the new one is coming for sure but some on here have said 08 as a 09. I just bought a new 06 and am getting ready to sell my 00 Jetta with 95,000 miles. It is a great car and so is the Prius, both in there own way.

The guesses are that a redesigned Prius 2009 will be out in fall of 2008. Whether you'd be able to buy one off the lot or have to order months ahead is another guess, as well as colors, interiors, options and other redesigns. Right now there is speculation it will have a Lithium-Ion battery and the mpg will be increased.

I own a 2005 and am planning on selling that and buying a 2009. Normally I keep a car for 10 years, but I'm making an exception in the case of the Prius. And I had a 1996 Saturn SC2 coupe with less than 50,000 miles on it. Nothing wrong with the car. But I saw the writing on the gas station signs. I have no doubts I will be able to sell my current Prius used and get top dollar for it. My car loan will be paid off right when I decide to get the new one. And the 2009 will be paid off right when I retire.

I can't answer the model year question... but I can expand on this a bit more. The next gen Prius WILL have a Li-Ion HV battery. And it will allow five or six miles of EV range (speed limits not known). And Toyota has finally "admitted" that they are "investigating" plug-in options. My guess is that the next car still won't allow grid charging - but it may be closer to that ideal... and easier to add aftermarket support for same.

And now the TMS folks will likely come in and clobber me with all my wild "unofficial" facts.

Darell, it's easy to get clobbered when you speculate without a source for the information.

At this point, anything could happen so whatever people say is just best guess. This is far enough out Toyota could change their mind on anything, even if they've already "decided".

I desparately need that new prius.....beeen saving for years. Still driving my 1988 Camry with only 197,000 miles on it <_< .

Toyota needs to work faster!!!

The plug-in hybrid won't come until 2010 and it woun't be Prius, I think.

My '91 Camry had around 235,000 when I sold it to my brother-in-law, and the car still runs GREAT. I had intended keeping it as long as I could (I figured somewhere around 300,000+), but the lure of the Prius was just too great!!!! BTW my sister and other brother-in-law had a van that went for 330,000-something before they sold it to someone else, and it was still in good running condition!! Now THAT's a quality car company!!!

nice! but that's nothing compared to this-

one of DH's regular customers has over *500k* (!) on an 89 or 90 corolla.

When I had my Honda Civic in for it's only small repair, I was told about a guy who was in the 400K' miles on his civic. The dealership saw him every 3 months or so for an oil change.

I so admire well built reliable cars.
