Getting my windshield replaced and calling around for quotes.. I may end up using Safelight even though the quote is a bit up there. If anyone is in the Dallas area any suggestions on places to go? Also, if anyone has done this before any tips or things I should take note of to assure it gets done correctly. Thanks in advance!

paying out of pocket when we asked the insurance company they said it was cheaper to pay for it out of pocket than the deductible, but i guess he wasn't quoting us with an oem....

$714 is way too much and you don't need to get an oem windshield for an eight year old car. A quality replacement shouldn't be more than $300 installed out of pocket. Don't get ripped off.

Google auto glass companies in your area. Ask for a pilkington replacement glass. High quality and low price.

When assessing the replacement windshield glass, there are at least three issues to consider:

    1. You will probably notice that the black border around the aftermarket glass is not as elaborate as compared to the original equipment glass, for example around the rear view mirror area the OEM glass has these little black dots to provide light shading. The aftermarket glass probably will not have these dots but may have tinting across the top of the glass, instead.

    2. Perhaps more important, look through the aftermarket glass before it is installed, inspecting it for flaws and imperfections. For example, look at an object with straight lines (like a building in the distance) and make sure that as you view it through the glass, you don't see any waviness or other flaws in the image.

    3. After you have had the glass installed and the sealant has cured, take your car for a car wash and make sure the newly installed windshield is not leaking water.

You might want to think about asking your insurance company for a couple of places they would recommend for you to get an estimate for your windshield replacement. I would ask. Can't hurt to ask.

Go with Safelight. There the best and the best around here. And no it will not be close to the original Toyota windshield in quality but will be fine and much better than any else's windshield. There' a whole bunch of window places popped upped in the last 5 years around here. China is now making windshields and very dubious one's at that.

The original is very expensive as you know and very high quality.

And as far as any issue with the window Safelight guarantee's the quality so if its got any issue they'll replace it. And the installer looks at the window before he puts it in as he does not want to do it twice.

Go with Safelight. They have a cool machine too and no one even touches it.

I know absolutely nothing about this company but it is a chain. The name of it is NACCO auto glass. They have a location in Mansfield, Texas, not that far from Dallas, About 40 miles. Check them out with the Better Business Bureau and get a quote from them if you are interested. They advertise a good warranty. Ask if they have Pilkington glass.
