2015 Tesla Model S P85D First Test - Motor Trend

Come on Toyota. This is what people want. Bring us something that is fun to drive and desirable to own yet is highly efficient. You can do it. ;)

I think that probably belong to the new Tesla P85D with 0-60 in 3.2 seconds.

Yeah. Damn iPad has real issues with copying and pasting links in forums. I had to switch to my trusty Android phone to correct the link.

sorry, tesla comes up a wee bit short...

charger hellcat 707 horsepower supercharged sedan will hit zero to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and run the quarter in 10.7 seconds

And you have 60,000 left in your wallet which will buy you 15,000 gallons of gas. assuming 10mpg thats 150K miles...

Even the Dodge is a Dog - in comparison to the top dog. Has everyone forgotten the lowly Nissan GTR?

Umm GT-r is decidedly NOT a sedan...

but yeah the dodge is still just a Fiat... if you want to get technical... :)

While I acknowledge the Hellcat's street cred, the article did say 4 door sedan. The Hellcat is a coupe. :) it's also a much different vehicle than the Model S which is decidedly more upscale. I mean, the Hellcat is still a Dodge when it's all said and done.

f8l... hellcat charger....IS a sedan... and yes it still a dodge...

2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat | driveSRT

60K is a lot coin in the wallet... but if you can afford a tesla, 60K is something you are not too worried about..

the interior pics of the charger look very nice

but the charger is IMO decidely a " four door sports car" while the tesla IMO is more luxo sport touring... and you'd never accuse the car makers of targeting the same Demographic...

Weird. All of the pictures I came across initially on that site showed only 2 door models. My bad. :)

The tesla did the 3.1 in street tires. I would give motortrend and tesla the nod here.

    on the GTR

    2013 Nissan GT-R is a 10 Second Car! - Motor Trend

I have no idea what track modifications they did for that car to hit 2.7. Let's see car and driver or motor trend race one against a tesla S and see which is faster ;-)

but the gtr isn't a sedan...so its out of the equation for this post...

Yeah I saw the drag radials. but street legal DOT stickie's...still a valid number... yeah I'd like to see the tesla on stickies, just to see

Hey you just saved 60K that buys lots of rubber and gas....

I like the tesla auto pilot feature... and while I love noisy engines. something sexy about going fast and not making a sound doing it...

    Impressive feat...no doubt....

OK we know the GTR is out of this contest due to door count but I'll also say its 0-60 time is slower than a........... well, Prius! ;) Why? It can only get that crazy low number by using an incredibly (and deliberately) complicated launch control Nissan implemented after numerous transmission failures:

    R-Mode Start
First, the driver must place the shift lever to either the "A" or "M" position. Next, select the R Mode with the transmission setup switch, then select R Mode with the VDC setup switch, depress the brake pedal firmly with your left foot and continuing depressing the brake, then press the accelerator pedal quickly with your right foot until the engine's rpms climb to 4,000 and hold it steady.

The challenge comes in that the driver must find and maintain the 4,000 rpm figure within three seconds of depressing the accelerator, and then release the brake pedal - it is as this point that the car will launch with the assistance of R Mode Start and potentially rocket the occupants to 60 miles per hour in under three seconds. Following this procedure, which is outlined in the manual, will not void the warranty.

Real world, you have to include this procedure in the timing too.:D

BTW, GTR replacement tranny's come in around $20,000.

doug, I'd like to see someone at a friday night test-n-tune sessino at local drag strip try to get all this done in the time it takes to prestage and stage... with out pissing off every one else there. or get challeneged at a stop-light... they;d get dusted everytime..

LOL no doubt. It's hard enough to stage a turbo car and pre-boost before triggering the 2nd staging beam.

In the 2nd part you can see me creeping past the beams.

I think 10 years from now all performance cars will be hybrid or plug-in. The launch boost of an electric motor under 15 mph is just so smooth compared to these complicated launch control schemes. Some may be force charge hybrids with a launch button, others will be plug-ins with a power mode.

Well, this video shows the opposite.

I know this is the Challenger Hellcat but they both use the same engine. 2 different drivers. None can get it lower than 4.7. Is it the track? Is it the tires? Is it the driver? Is it the car? At the end, they're making all kinds of excuses to justify it's inability to perform.
Even the official Charger Hellcat page didn't list "Fastest 0-60" but only list "Fastest 1/4 mile" The fastest 0-60 time belongs to the P85D.
Also the thread title still hold true as Tesla Model S P85D and Charger Hellcat are both from the U.S.

Found another video. This one is the Charger Hellcat

707hp on 2 wheels with no traction just won't cut it.

Musk does 0-60 in the P85D with 4 people. Look at the camera crew in the back.
