    Talk about acceleration:

129 months to go from 0 to 1 million cumulative sales.

15 months to go from 1 to 2 million cumulative sales.

Great! Let's hope another 1.5 months will get us to 3 million, eh...

What I like is this chart:

From: Green Car Congress: Toyota Global Cumulative Hybrid Sales Top 2M

You'll notice 2007 and 2008 had the same, total numbers. I have no doubt that every hybrid that could be made was sold. This was the battery limit in graphic form.

I'm hoping 2009 ends with a higher step up with more battery production coming online.

This is true and even more apparent if you pro-rate the current sales this year to projected end-of-year sales. Then, for the last 3 years, we would have perfectly flat sales within <2%. Clearly , sales would have been higher if something (batteries) were not truncating them to 430,000 units.

    Year|Sales
    2007|429,400
    2008|429,700
    2009|437,600

    I'll get in trouble, but...

For now, NiMH is the traction battery of choice, and production is limited. Under these conditions they save more overall fuel consumption when used in hybrid vehicles, compared to pure EVs.

PS: it still blows my mind (do people still say that?) that the Sudbury deposit fell to Earth as a meteorite 1.85 billion years ago.

And God Said "Here, you're going to need this later".

(probably get in trouble for that too)
