You might be able to find a Classic Prius for that price, or a wrecked (body damage) but running 2nd generation for that price. But if you're hoping to get an '04-'06 for that price it might be tough.

That said, if you buy a basic package brand new '06 Prius from a dealer before the 30th of this month (which will be tough in S.Cal) you get a $3150 tax credit. Since base Price is around $21500 that puts you right into your $18k range.

 You may laugh out loud... however...

Two years ago, I bought my "slightly" used Prius on eBay - in my deal the Prius had only 4,000 miles on the odometer. With a CarFax report and the protections eBay provides, I enjoyed a good transaction... paid cash. eBay Motors offers protection, as I recall to $20,000 and CarFax offers protection against errors in their report.

On eBay, you'd want to do an "Advanced Search" specifying the price range. Search on "Prius" with a price range of, say, $16,000 to $19,000 or whatever you please.

One problem with your desire is that you will find some "Salvage Title" deals. Purchase of such a Prius would result in NO WARRANTIES of any kind... all Warranty bets are OFF. I do see some high-mileage on eBay from time to time in that price range and apparently good titles.

Here's an example: eBay #190030884903 is within your price range in L.A. offered by "Off Price Cars" - but it is a Salvage Title... I keep track on eBay to keep up with what I could likely get selling my '04, so my search criteria is $16,000 - $35,000. You'd likely want to try a lower range.

    Don't be discouraged.

I bought in July an '04 Package 9 33k for $18100. It CAN be done. You just have to be patient. Proof: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...K%3AMERFB%3AIID

Car had a minor front right accident, no airbag deployment, and all repaired by a Toyota dealership. Other than that, the car was as an '04 with 33k should be.

    Good luck!

I'm open to discussing a price with you if you are truly interested in buying. Would you like me to take some pictures and send them to you? I have the keyless entry, navigation system package. Tan interior. Never had a problem with the car . We are selling because we have another Prius ('05) and we need to sell our '04 Prius to get our teenager a used car. (she wants a different car).
