We are junking our ‘06 prius. Are there any suggestions as to how/where to do this to maximize recycling of the materials? We are about an hour northwest of Chicago.

You call LKQ or copart etc towing lots if you want to just look through your internet phone book somebody will buy it I don't know about the maximum use of the parts You think junk yards go out looking for people to buy their parts not so much I buy complete cars from towing lots many of them run and drive. So the whole car gets used in that case most of the cars I see at LKQ are beating with hammers and you know whatever the few parts that everybody wants are missing and the rest just gets torn up and turned into well crap if you will I've even seen complete beautiful leather interiors where they set brake rotors on the front seats so they can just rust and ruin the seats It's nonsensical I've cussed people out at LKQ for that kind of nonsense It's just unbelievable I just ripped out a leather interior of a tan car so I can put it in my gold car with that ugly tan velour interior. This is the smooth leather tan interior not perforated The smooth seems to wear the longest doesn't get a lot of cracking around the seat skirts just from General sitting.

You were hoping who was going to recycle the battery The recycling yard you sell the car to No the minute you sell the car somebody's going to take the battery out of the back and take it home thinking they've done something That's about all that goes on here You won't see a battery in the back of a Prius in the junkyard idiots just take them because they think they going to sell it on eBay for $600 they don't even know what a battery is except it's heavy That's what happens to these things when they go to LKQ that's why I don't send them there because they just show back up on my eBay for $400 I've even marked some batteries at the junkyard and seen them pop up on eBay two weeks later complete junk but that's what people do. That's why you don't want to buy that kind of crap You're talking about a battery here you know like when they wear out in your flashlight you go to CVS and you buy some new ones here everybody wants to get out hobby chargers and all kind of stuff I imagine because they have plenty of time and not so much money I get that too. But in the end you'll either be giving up the car or buying a battery that's up to snuff generally speaking sometimes you can make that from a bunch of other parts temporarily and that might get you through so there you go.

Hey Bisco. Someone swiped it from our car while parked on our driveway. Due to the age of the car, and the fact it was having mechanical issues, we put one on that no one would ever want to steal.

Ok. I’ll scrap it or donate it.

you can aways part it out first using Facebook marketplace, if the hv battery is fine that will be extra $300-500+ from the scrap value. Then search google for junkyard (like picknpull.com) to have it picked up for scrap. I'll probably just sell the whole car in FB marketplace to get more value than the junkyard.

Lots of sketchy people respond to ads there. When my son was selling his Tacoma (which was in good shape, and was a model favored by both off-roaders and tradesmen) contacts were mostly scammers and flakes, with just a few serious buyers. Not sure going that route is worth the aggravation for the few bucks more than just having the nearest scrapyard come and get it.

Maybe @ericbecky would be interested in recycling this vehicle.

that's totally expected in FB marketplace.. lots of people selling $5-$20 items which I think is not worth my time but for others it's a lucrative business. The person I bought my 425k mile Prius even told me that the last person he dealt with was a total a*hole and the rest ghosted her. I sell and buy in FB marketplace so my expectations are low.. but where on earth can you buy android stereo worth $100 - $200+ in amazon for $20! or cars from $500. Selling is not bad either, I have people showing up with tons of $20 bills on hand and there was a time we do PayPal transaction in realtime (watch the cash go through my bank in a few minutes)

Flea markets and other locales which move a lot of stolen goods, no questions asked.

I already arranged for a pick up of the vehicle. We ended up donating it as the yard we called seemed sketchy. I can’t feel bad about not getting any money for the vehicle. This has been the best car I’ve ever owned. Sad to see it go.

I’m curious-what was the last straw that made you junk it? I also have an 06 that has been the greatest vehicle I’ve ever owned. But I know nothing lasts forever.
