What is the top speed you drive your Prius

Just tested my topspeed on an empty highway and did 194km/h - 120mph.
PWR-mode on - flat road.

I've gone about 100 mph.

 

The fastest I have gone so far is 98 MPH. Are there three digits on the speedometer or 2? Does it show 120 or 20 when your going 120 MPH?

 

The highest recorded speed was 180 mph for a Prius dropped from a helicopter. Or perhaps that was a Dave Berry joke about the fastest animal on earth. I get confused.

Ugh... The gen II does 108 to 110 depending on which mountain your flying down. I'll say 108 since it's "easy to hit".

At 100mph expect to get 25 to 32 mpg...

 

One test no one has done is to see if it will hit 120 while going up a mild incline... that would be the true test to see if it could go past the barrier if the electronics didn't stop it.

Of course it may drop you to near 20mpg..... dang... what a shame!

I just did the lovely scenic drive from SD to Tucson. We got 48mpg through some mountains and trying to maintain under 80mph but there is NOTHING out there and it is sooooo hard to go the speed limit. It feels like you are sitting still. I have often ended up in the low 90's cause you just don't feel the speed in the car. High speed and wind is not a good idea, then it feels like you could absolutely become airborne.

 

When I test drove R2Pre2 with the salesman, we got on the freeway and I just floored it in PWR mode and got right up to 85-90mph. Had exactly the same experience as Windstrings below.

My husband drives 5+over speed limit, max. That's fine for around town, but on the freeway, I'm easily 75-80 mph like the rest of the cars. And I'm pleased to say that today R2Pre2 faced down a big Beemer sedan with great aplomb!

 

I'm usually a 63, 64ish kind of person. But I had to hurry today and got up to 96 mph. My son politely asked what speed most drivers go at

 

My wife achieved 93 mph, GPS measured, leading to my expressions of concern. I've only gone 80 mph for purely scientific purposes. Two runs and I had my data.

You guys are the reason I told my salesman to not let anyone testdrive my new baby when it got in.

 

it's new so i hate driving it fast, but we've gone close to 80 mph (130 kph) already.

 

I've managed to get my new Prius up to 40mph, that's actually really fast considering how bad traffic can get in LA.

 

I dont know how you have time looking at gas mileage at high speeds, I prefer to look at the road or cops.

I have seen 107mph on my GPS in the Prius

I've seen mine went up to 100-110mph during my 500 mile trip to Vegas last summer. That's probably why my average MPG goes up sooo slowly even though now I don't ever drive it faster than 75-80mph. So, I won't recommend to anyone to speed up to that high unless you want to ruin your MPG!

 

Thats why I don't worry about lifetime mileage... theres no way to erase the few joy rides you may incur.

I want my car to serve me and not the other way around.
I think we can get possessed with watching the mileage charts so much we don't enjoy the car itself.

We must drive people absolutely crazy that can't relate!

 

Interesting point! I guess all geographies that still use mph have a switch to cut across to kph (Canada as well I guess to go vice versa?). I seem to recall the continental EU Gen II model does not have that switch so those driving on UK roads, for instance, could not get mph readings. That would be in line with most analogue speedos in the UK which have kph readings as well, while continental vehicles would have kph only.
