    Hi Clynn

May I ask is this an OTD price that you just gave?

We ordered our car on Aug 19th, about the end of the Clunkers program. Our local dealer (and most others around us) were totally out of the Prius cars so ours had to be ordered. We got it on Sep 11th and paid MSRP for the car but did get about $1000 off on an extended warranty (that was probably a waste of money, even at that price.) Now, about 3 months after we ordered our car, the same dealer advertises that they have 24 Prius cars in stock "for immediate delivery." They might give a bit of a discount now.

I guess the answer for us to the original question is none.

Where can one get reliable up-to-date information on the invoice price of a Gen 3 Prius? I just realized the invoice price on KBB was $800 less than the invoice price quoted by Overstock.com for the model and options I wanted.

I am going to the dealer today and I want to armed with the correct information.

I'm not sure knowing "invoice price" is an effective way to buy a car. Many dealers don't pay invoice price. They pay below because they buy in volume, or they met some other sales quota, etc.

I paid MSRP in June - and was quite happy to do that. No remorse in the least. Still very happy.

I purchased at a dealer (Earl Stewart Toyota in Palm Beach FL) that imposes NO dealer fees or markups. And holds down the SET region on port options - mine had none.

Just received this email below along with the monthly newsletter they send out. Was quite surprised with their inventory and pricing.... BTW I am not associated with this dealer at all ( a 6 hour drive from me...) - just a point of reference for you folks.
    -----------------------------------------

    2010 3rd Generation Prius Sale!

    Dear Dean,

You are invited to a silent sale on the 2010 Prius at Earl Stewart Toyota. For the remainder of November 2009, all of our new, in-stock 2010 Prius will be sold at dealer invoice. And, as always at Earl Stewart Toyota, no Dealer Fees. Please note that dealer invoice is not our dead cost. We're still making a profit. Please see below for more details.

This is a legitimate sale. A legitimate sale must have a legitimate reason. We are looking to close our year strong by clearing out our new Prius inventory. This will help us earn more Prius. The number of cars of each model that Toyota allocates to a dealer is based on how fast they sell their inventory. By having this sale, we will earn more Prius going in to the New Year. We will benefit by having a larger inventory of cars that are normally sold at MSRP. This is the strategy that has made us the largest seller of Prius in the Southeast United States.

Here is a current list of our new Prius inventory with MSRP and sale price listed. Again, these prices are plus tax and tag only - no dealer fees or phony markups. These cars are physically here. We have more Prius in our incoming inventory that will also qualify for the sale. Please call us ASAP at (561) 844-3461 to check on availability. We do not expect this inventory to last long.

    model color MSRP Sale Price
    2010 Prius II Blizzard Pearl $24393 $23204
    2010 Prius II Sandy Beach $24719 $23717
    2010 Prius III w/leather Blizzard Pearl $26941 $25292
    2010 Prius III Blizzard Pearl $24794 $23544
    2010 Prius III w/leather & NAV Silver $28072 $26316
    2010 Prius III Black $24874 $23844
    2010 Prius III w/NAV Black $26604 $25311
    2010 Prius III w/NAV Black $27303 $25799
    2010 Prius III Black $23874 $23025
    2010 Prius IV Blizzard Pearl $27494 $26325
    2010 Prius IV Barcelona Red $26575 $25654
    2010 Prius IV Sandy Beach $27374 $26275
    2010 Prius IV w/NAV Blizzard Pearl $29675 $28339
    2010 Prius V Silver $28744 $27560
    2010 Prius V w/NAV Barcelona Red $31224 $29677
    2010 Prius V Winter Gray $29542 $28178

There is still profit behind “dealer invoice.†We’re still making about $500 when selling a Prius at invoice as opposed to an average of approximately $1700 at MSRP. For an even further explanation about dealer invoice vs true dealer cost. Please click on Earl's Blog and read the item entitled, "Holdback or Holdup?"

Can someone explain to me why the MSRP never matches the MSRP on Toyota's site? Sorry, at 40 I've never bought a car and totally naive.

Perhaps options, especially Port options I'd guess. And transport $$$.

Don't be fooled. I've seen the same "immediate delivery" ads, and at least here, they are a way to drum up business and lure you over -most dealerships don't have immediate delivery for package IIs and IIIs without paying a premium.

I am considering purchasing a 2010 Prius III with only floor mats as option.

Total payment is $372 per month with $3000 down for 75 months.

I am trading in a leased 2009 Honda Civic LX - Payoff is 16K - they are offering $13,500 but said they are adjusting financing rate to bring down
    payment

Is this a fair deal - I will be driving approx 180 miles per day so MPG is very important

    thx

    Bob

Paid MSRP less $1200 on a Prius V with Nav. Car landed at port a day or two before price increase so really made out. A different dealer offered MSRP less $2000 for a Prius V (also pre price-increase) that had both the AT package and another $500 in port installed options. Decided to pass on that car.

Would you mind letting me know which dealer that your girlfriend get the good deal from?

    Thanks.

As far as I could tell the dealer had it priced at about $1000 above MSRP. I got it for about $400 less than MSRP. FYI - I went to another dealer (not affiliated and gave them the price the first dealer gave me) the second dealer said to go back and buy it. This has never happened to me before.

Sadly, I can never tell when car salesmen are lying or telling the truth. I just try to be happy my car. :)

MSRP was $23,350. I paid $22,398 for a $952 savings. I did a lot of email shopping letting all 8 of the local dealers know that I was shopping their compitition.
    I'm happy!!!

I had the same experience when I went to a daler who had a car coming in that had the color, etc. that I wanted. This dealer told me, after a lengthy back and forth discussion, to buy it at the other dealer where I said I could get it for a better price. When he called me back about 4 weeks later I thanked him as I was now driving the car I purchased elsewhere for even less than the price I had quoted him I could buy it for.
