Dubai = No Prius'

    Just got done with 2.5 days in Dubai (quite a bit of time spent on a double-decker bus tour) and we noticed early-on that we could not spot a single prius (no matter the generation) among the thousands of cars we saw in Dubai.

    Guess it is not a popular car here in the middle east! :D

    I think I read somewhere that the big oil producing countries (like UAE and Venezuala) actually subsidize gasoline prices for their citizens. So if gas is 50 cents a gallon, who cares how much you use.

    How about we turn this one around?

    Let's make it: We cannot spot a single barrel of Saudi Arabian or UAE oil HERE.

    The Department of Energy was instituted on Aug. 4, 1977, to lessen our dependence on foreign oil.
    The U.S. dependence on percentage of foreign oil production and consumption is more than twice as high as 1977.
    DOE: Number of Employees: 16,000 federal and 100,000 contractors
    2007 Spending: $25 billion

    uh-huh. Another wonderfully successful federal program.

    Just imagine WHEN Israel hits Iran due to the nuclear crisis. $5.00+ gas in a week. Turmoil. Al Gore will become a billionaire. Exxon and pals huge profits. And us chumps (at least the non-Prius chumps) are out of luck. Jimmy Carter days all over again.

    Called planning ahead and securing the Homeland. Something our federal government excels at.

    Off soapbox. Hey, at least the resale value of our Prii will increase nicely.

    I didn't see any in the 4 cities (including Athens) that I visited in Greece last month. I saw everything from Mercedes to Smarts, but no Prii.
