Finally everything came this week. Kenwood DNX-8120, Double Din Navi, vid, built in bluetooth, Ipod controls, and etc....I bought the Sirius SCC1 module. Still debating on getting the steering wheel module.
Anyhow, I wasn't going to wait for Metra or Schoche to complete there R&D for the radio kit for the 2010 Prius. Seems like they never have a true release date. So I ordered the OEM "TOYOTA PRIUS RADIO SURROUND 55405-47080" from ebay. Fast shipping too, took like 5 days....

I've added pictures of the installs of the microphone, GPS antenna, Sirius SIGMA windshield mount antenna.

As for the rims, they are 2010 Scion Tc rims that I've painted black. here are a few pics, enjoy!

Very nice! How about speakers and amps, etc? Do you run stock speakers with this head unit? Any plan to upgrade them?
How's the sound quality compared to stock head unit?

    Thanks!

thanks all. I've only replaced the head unit, and I must say, with the stock speakers, there is an improvement in sound quality. I was going to purchase all new speakers too but with the way they sound right now, I'll just leave the stock speakers in. The only thing I might add would be an amp and sub. For the amp, I'm looking at the Alpine PDX 1.600 and for the sub, Alpine 10" type-r. I was going to fiberglass the enclosure on the left rear panel so I can still have plenty of space in the trunk. Still debating on the amp and sub.

    Anyway, thanks guys.

Did you notice any difference in your FM reception?

Yeah, the result for FM reception will be good to know. Also related to shark fin.

When I had the stock radio with the shark fin, slight loss of reception, but listenable.

Now that I installed the Kenwood DNX-8120 with the shark fin, guess what, still sucked. lol. Same reception pick up as with the stock radio.

Honestly, the shark fin antenna makes the car look better and if I was a "commercial radio" listener, I would definitely still buy it. There is just a slight loss of reception. Same clarity in the city, but I guess you get less reception when your out in the boonies.

There is no content on "commercial radio anyway," so I don't ever listen to FM/AM stations. I use Sirius on all my cars. I'm either listening to Sirius, or my IPOD.

I'm currently stocking up for a new AVIC-z110bt install here....can you take pics of your GPS and Sirius anten. installation points. Also, if you installed a microphone for your new HU I would love to see where you stuck that as well. (and how well it worked)

I too decided not to wait on Scosche and Metra and ordered the UK Toyo park and the metra filler pieces. I mean honestly, I have never seen a Scosche or Metra dash kit that was a quality piece.

1.) I routed the GPS antenna on the right corner of the dash. I've read that others have successfully tucked the GPS antenna in the tweeter grill. But I'd rather have the antenna in open air with no obstructions. The GPS antenna came with a metal plate that your suppose to use 3M tape to adhere to the dash, and the magnetic GPS antenna sits right atop the metal plate. The metal plate stuck out like a sore thumb so I just used the 3M tape and adhered the GPS antenna directly on the dash (as seen on photo).
It was very easy to route. You don't have to remove the entire dash apart. Just pull off the right pillar cover (if you have never removed the pillar cover before, in the pic, there is a black hook that you must rotate 90 degrees to remove the cover), tweeter grill, and remove the lower glove box. To run the wire, just push it down the gap between the windshield and the dash, plenty of gap for the wire to go in easily.

2.) As for the mic, don't slap the right side pillar cover back on yet. Route the mic wiring along the same path. The easiest method I found to tuck the wire into the roof panel was by shoving the wire in with a credit card.

3.) For the Sirius antenna, I used the Sirius SIGMA antenna. It's a windshield mount antenna that I removed from my old SCION TC that had Sirius. It is a very HARD FIND! I use to have the antenna mounted right behind my Shark fin but it was an eye sore.

4.) Totally agree with the Scoshe and Metra Kit quality. I doubt they can match the OEM look. If anything, it will come out as matte black cheap plastic finish. But I'm just speculating.

    Hope that helps MANG!

Another nice easy place to put the mic is hot-melted to the top of the steering wheel column. This seems to give good sound, and is fairly close to your face... In addition, it is *simple* to wire (there's just some cloth in the back where the steering column comes out - and the radio is inches away in the back...

Rims look great painted black. I have an 08 with TC Rims which not only look great but handle more like a sports sedan.

Just wondering how's your mileage since you changed the wheels? I am curious to see if the G3's get a similar 4-5 MPG hit of the G2's.

    Thanks!

I've only had them on for a day so I guess I'll report back within a week or two. But I am aware of the mileage lost due to the heavier rims.

vinyl the top of your car! i saw a white insight with the top vinyl'd black. looked amazing. the contrast would really make the wheels stand out and balance out the contrast of black/white.

Did you already have the 8120? I'm going to do the same thing and was looking at the 9140 but you can't hook up both Sirius and HD Radio. Really annoying. I figure as long as I'm going to do it I would add HD, there are some good stations in Los Angeles and the quality is super. Other than that the 9140 gets rave reviews.
