There are several ways to ask for owner ages. This approach is a little different but aimed at being able to compare with census demographics. So here it goes.

The poll goes 35 days so we'll have something to discuss over Christmas. Usenames are not recorded, it is an anonymous poll.

Thanks, this will work. You'll notice the "baby boom" bulge is already starting to show even though the numbers are still fairly small.

The USA census reports populations in 5 year age buckets and 2010 is a census year. We'll be able to compare our birth year distributions versus the numbers in these buckets. The interesting parts will be where they diverge both higher and lower.

Feel free to share this poll with other groups. The larger the population, the better we'll be able to see and useful patterns.

Only trouble is, some bloody Aussie polluted your results because he wont be captured in the census. Unless Toyota would fly me in for census night?

Sometimes if I had any brains I'd probably take them out and play with them. Yes indeed, you are welcome back for the 2010 census and Ken@Japan. Actually it is an open poll although my reference will be the available USA age distribution.

I'm trying to work out my future birth year.

I'm also wondering how many we will see in the 1995 to 1999 and the 2000 onward category

Unfortunately, this poll will mostly be about the ages of those of us with nothing better to do than hang around priuschat. I'm not sure it will even reflect prius owners that well.
BTW, for most of us our past birth year and current birth year are the same. Those who have been reincarnated may have a different view.

Another poll bump but the numbers look good.

Either you have high expectations of the "under ten" crowd or you expect this poll be be up for a long time.

The poll ends in a week so this is just a courtesy 'bump.' Once it closes, I'll use the USA census data to compare and we'll gain a clue about Prius ownership vs. USA population.

Thanks everyone, 114 samples, we're in good shape for a credible analysis.

Math joke: Humans are so good at spotting trends, we find them in random data.

There will always be 'outliers' so I'm not too terribly worried about non-census participants. In math, there are some problems best solved by adding an 'imaginary' part, solving the equations, and then taking out the 'imaginary' part. So for purposes of this survey, we'll treat any non-census participants as 'imaginary'. <grins>

Ok, if you're really interested in the accuracy of a voluntary, self-selected, Internet poll, I can put another up for non-USA census members to 'correct the record.' But I see that type of poll as having a lot of potential problems. To minimize confusion, I won't put it up until after this poll closes.

Now if your country population has evidence of a 'baby boom', I don't think we will need to 'correct the record.' The USA had a distinct 'baby boom' that changed our population profile. When I do the analysis, I'll post the USA census distribution as the reference and if your country population percentages are 'close enough', there is no need to back out your vote.
