Last winter a dear totaled our lovely Barcelona Red 2007 Prius, as posted about here:

    http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...rius-vs-deer-68mph-both-earned-ex-prefix.html

We recently bought a 2010 Prius V with the ATP in winter grey metallic, so we are back! Lovely car and I like it over our older 2007 Prius. I find in the short distance driving we do that I can get about 5-6 MPG better than the 2007 Prius, perhaps due to the better warm up behavior of the new Prius. Impressed with this car so far.

Thanks everyone! The best mileage I've gotten was on the way back from picking up some yummy Chinese food at a local (awesome!) Szechuan place - 83MPG over 4 miles. It's a cheat as the course is net downhill, but still I never got better than 65/70 MPG with the 2007 Prius over the same course.

    Re: prius in snow

Can someone tell me about how a Prius handles in snow and ice. Am thinking of buying one after a bad experience with a VW 4 wheel drive, but am concerned with a 50 mile commute and an uphill driveway in bad weather. Is it true that Priuses are not so good in snow?

    Re: prius in snow

Hello and welcome to priuschat! :welcome:

You probably meant to post this as a new thread rather than buried in mine, but I'll give you an answer.

Our 2007 Prius with the stock Goodyear Integrity tires was decent in the snow here in New Jersey. The Prius is a front wheel drive car and they all tend to be decent enough in the snow for general use.

For heavy snow regions, such as parts of upstate NY, snow tires are a good idea. There are many people who have reported excellent performance in the snow of a Prius equipped with good snow tires.

Our 2010 Prius has not yet seen snow so I can't say if it will match the performance of our 2007 Prius in the snow. In most parts of New Jersey most years snow tires aren't need for front wheel drive cars.
