I'm very happy to hear that Toyota are considering building a Prius wagon.

We bought a FFH a few months ago. It was basically a tossup between that car and a Gen3 Prius to replace the Gen2 Prius that went to my inlaws.

If there had been a Prius wagon we would have SURELY bought it.

If it doesn't suit you, that's fine. But we've had it for 2½ years and unless you drive it like a sports car, it will easily average in the high 30's over the course of a year even in Chicago weather.

Depends on the country. If it's more of an MPV like the Mazda5, there's a strongly possibility. If it's a straight station wagon, then no.

Also privacy glass on minivans and SUVs seem to be an NA thing. Other markets don't have that factory option widely available.

Less of a hassle than putting a tint afterwards.

Is tinting a hassle ? I remember grabbing a bite to eat while someone did the work. Plus, I got to pick the tint specs I wanted.

The first nail in the coffin for a successful car model is to make it bigger. That path has been followed before by a number of car models I don't have to name that bit the dust because of it. Thunderbird comes to mind.

It's a consequence of the marketing types holding sway over the engineering types who developed the model. They always think the public wants size. Freudian, maybe.

I don't think that will happen to the Prius, since there is still a lot of innovation left in the battery technology--some of it in the proposed bigger model.

Guess i'm just worried about "wear" after 5-10 years as opposed to tinted glass.

    Yes it is

They never do the whole window, usually the top is not done
It can scratch, use the wrong clean, you can have problems

Live in a small town, hard to find someone that can do it

I think I can to drive over 60 miles to find someone who use ceramic tint

I'm not at all convinced by this argument, and I doubt Toyota is either.

Here's a list of some other cars that have been made bigger over the years/decades: Camry, Corolla, Accord, Civic,...

They're probably already finishing up on Gen IV designs. Who'll care, if the next generation of Prius is the size of a Crown Vic ... as long as it gets 70mpg !

I'd rather it not be the size of a Crown Vic lol. I barely remember how massive our Camry's hood is compared to the Prius.

    news update:
Toyota to supply HV reflecting regional needs (Japanese only)

The longer size Prius is expected to launch in 2010, and the seat configurations are varied region by region.
two row seats: JP, US, Asia
    three row seats: JP, EU

They think the three row seats Prius can't offer enough cabin space for the US consumer's expectation.

    Here's the google translation:

Toyota hybrid vehicle (HV) to deploy a full-scale models that reflect the needs of the region. During fiscal year 2010 to launch HV "Prius" car derived from two-row seat and set up three types of two-row seats. According to regional characteristics of the two-row seat wagon in the U.S. and Japan, Asia, three-row seat minivan will be released in Japan and Europe. Prius is selling the same car all over the world, any future small car HV "Corolla" to bring in a different form and size as well as every other region.
Model derived from the total length is stretched while retaining the design of the Prius, two columns with three-row seat "appearance is the same" (executive). However, changing the configuration of the seats in each region.
In Japan strongly calls for the HV minivans, station wagons for sale can be expected for the corporation, to introduce both 2-row 3-row seats. Meanwhile in the United States "as a half-size minivan" (executives) to focus and see a van.
