I re-checked the meter again tonight. Normal talking - no bars, loud talking - no bars, loud shouting - three bars, yell at the top of my lungs - barely all bars. I did this inside my garage. I'm sure I would have been comitted if someone was watching me ;)

There are two ways of setting the mic volume that I know of. One is in the setup menu itself (not hidden), and also in the secret menu.

The "secret menu" is found in the Nav's diagnostic mode (mentioned in previous post on page one of this thread). It has a 5-second voice recorder that, I will assume, tests the effect of changing the volume of the microphone.

Are you sure the setting in the setup menu is for the mic? I thought it was for the speaker.

As far as the 5 second recording, you don't need to use that to see the meter reading. The recording is so you can hear what the other person will hear. This would actually be pretty nice if it actually worked.

Hmmmmm.... Pretty sure, but now I see I'll be walking out in the sub-freezing midnight chill to find out. Stay tuned.

    AAArrrrgggghhhhh.

I can no longer get into the secret menu. The car was serviced yesterday for the first oil change. I also had them change the annoying continuous backup beep to beep once mode. Could they have installed new firmware?

No joy. Tried both the finger dance and turn on the headlights three times methods. Or perhaps it won't work at 20 degrees. Nutz.

The regular menu on "Phone" setup doesn't appear to be clearly marked whether it is mic volume or speaker volume.

This is strange. try again today and if you haven't, try the way I describe in post http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...play-while-driving-post961477.html#post961477 it's the same as the video but I explain that it only takes one finger, do it slow and where you should be tapping.

Just checked and the setting in the setup menu is for speaker output not mic input.

Where do I open a trouble report with Toyota? If I do open a trouble ticket should I tell them that I've changed the mic setting in the service menu or will they tell me now that I've done that I might have messed something up?

I had a prius 2006 it took me right up to the trade in for this one to find that darn hidden menu It made such a difference on that car .I think our hidden menu is just for nothing .It makes no change what so ever,
I did report to the service department about the muffle voice and they said they have pulled some of theses Nav blue tooth radios and changed them out .I don't know about you folks I really don't want anyone tearing at my car . It is just never the same after that !! They are aware of the problem. Why can't it just be an easy fix ?

i tried searching the forum about this issue with non-nav prius. Is there a way to adjust the mic gain (= access the service menu) with non-nav prius? Or is it a stop-and-go at the dealer?

Don't know as I have the Nav. Maybe someone else will chime in.

I have the same problem. Just had 5k service done and fixed the reverse beeps as well as unlock all doors with one touch of the handle.

I never had complaints about volume before and ever since my service - all I ever hear is complaints.

I would like to raise the sensitivity of the mic to 5 but cannot get into the menu with finger taps OR headlights.

    Please help!!

    thanks

What do you think changed after the service. I've had the mic problem from the beginning BUT I had my door locks and backup beeps changed when I took delivery. I wonder if this has anything to do with it.

Did you try to get to the menu like I said in this post? http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...play-while-driving-post961477.html#post961477

Oh, I don't know...let me think...secret hacks that only you know about! I bow to your superior Prius knowledge. :hail:

I shared your youtube video with my husband and he commented "That's neat - what other vids does he have? What else can we do?"

Perhaps the "finger dance" is the only user-hack available right now. However, I always think there must be more hacks out there but that I just can't find them.

That's really strange. I haven't heard of anyone not being able to do it as a result of firmware/hardware changes, but maybe. here is a video of me doing it the way I described.

Just had a thought. I use Bluetooth streaming audio and thought that might be the reason that the mic sounds so bad. So I called and left a message for myself with and without the audio bluetooth on and there was no difference. Any other ideas as to why some of us are having this problem and some are not.
Is there a website to open a trouble ticket for Toyota or do you have to call in?
