I haven't heard the coolant thermo bottle pump running after shutting down the car in the last few days. How do I check to be sure if there is a problem or not? Thanks!

If you have a Scangauge, you can monitor coolant temp to see if it rises when you first boot up in the morning.

If not, the best way is to hear it, I would lower the window (use IG-On to lower window before going to Ready) then listen for it.

Finally, if it isn't working, theoretically it should set code(s) and warnings.

Also remember that the thermos is not always used. If the temperature levels are such that it doesn't make sense, the pump will not activate.

Did you mean if the coolant is not hot enough?

Right. The control system looks at the coolant temperature in the thermos and in the engine. It only pumps the coolant if it makes sense.

If the pump is not working the CEL will light, and you will get DTC PA2601.

I have been checking the ScanGauge whenever I remember to do so. Almost every time the pump seems working fine. It still puzzles me that sometimes the sound is loud and clear as it used to be when I first bought the car new but sometimes I just don't hear anything. The loud and clear noise used to happen every time when the car is shut down. It is similar to the http://jaygroh.dreamhost.com/priuschat/coolantnoise3.wav below but mine is higher in pitch and without the clicking sound in the middle of the recording.
I just went through this thread

    Not sure if it's related.
