I trust Amazon and it doesn't say refurb.

As handy as I am I wouldn't dare install it myself. I've seen the pics posted and it doesn't look that bad but I'm not taking any chances becuase the car will be new. I'm going to do the HU, backup camera (don't know how anyone could live without one, I can't see anything out the back) and I'lm going to add Sirius and HD Radio. Might even do speakers depending on how I feel about an installer ripping my new car apart. All that is worth having a pro do the work.

I would give it at least a try... you can always have someone finish it up.
I have parts ordered for my conversion. I am going w/o Nav though. Rear cam is a must for me too.

Look through the other posts - as long as you get the wire kit (and the Prius is standard Toyota), it shouldn't take more than 45 minutes to install. If you've pulled the dash apart before, make it 10 minutes tops...

Nice head unit! I'm in the same boat. I thought about getting the dash mounted Garmin and Sirius, I like the cleanliness of the in-dash version.

How much would professional install of the head unit/rear camera/sirius tuner/antennas, etc usually run. The only way I'd ever attempt this on my own would be with step-by-step instructions. I have a long history of breaking the unbreakable.

So, the stearing wheel controls work fine on the JVC unit?? is there additional wiring or device needed? . . could some one pose a link to the Toyota wiring harness and dash adapter needed? Or a good web site to look these up on.
    Thanks,

Yes, it a small device called PAC steering wheel control interface and it hooks up very easy and the steering wheel controls work perfect. The unit is about $50.00

So we need the JVC unit, the Toyota wiring thingy, the PAC thingy and the plastic face surround/bezel?

Yup. So far that is what I have on order. Got the bezel the other day, waiting on the rest.
[edit] oh wait, one other thing... you will need the Metra trim pieces that go on either side of the HU that fills in the space between the bezel and the HU.

Anyone know how much adding a front camera would cost? With professional installation? I really don't want to crunch the front of my car on one of those parking lot curb thingies.

If you or someone could put together a parts list with actual part numbers and some where-to-buys that would be great!

I got my HU yesterday. I should have the SWI, wiring harness and trim pieces tomorrow. I plan to document the upgrade process. But that will probably not be completed for a couple of weeks. For now I will just list out what I have:
    1. Head Unit (HU). Mine is a Pioneer Double Din 4100 DVD 7" screen, no nav.
    2. Bezel/Surround. This was bought though e-Bay from Pentagon.http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...68362-p-n-55405-47080-surround-head-unit.html
    3. Metra trim pieces and Toyota wiring harness for 4 speaker system. I bought this combo. The trim fills in the gap between the HU and the surround. The HU is 180mm wide, the bezel is 200mm wide.
    4. Steering Wheel Interface (SWI). I bought this one that is specific to Pioneer. This is optional if you want to retain you steering wheel controls.

Your part list may vary depending on what system you go with.
Now big disclaimer: I have not install a thing yet, just collecting parts.

Spiderman - My install is complete now. Looks great, runs great. Just a terrific system.

One thing, if you have bluetooth phone controls and a voice control button on your steering wheel be sure to specify that you want the PAC SWI-PS version number 1.6.8. This is the latest version and gives you control of the later mentioned functions.

Great news! I got all my parts and ready to go next weekend. I will check on the version of the PAC. I wonder if they can be upgraded? So you got all the steering wheel controls to work? Are they responsive?
    Thanks,
    Peter

I don't have the above mentioned controls (pkg II) but I did check the PAC and it is version 1.6.8.

p.s. did your FM reception improve at all?

are there non-steering wheel controls for bluetooth? I also have a package II, but want bluetooth without having to install a bluetooth system (outside of a new HU)

I don't want to stretch this thread too far from it's great subject, but I think the FM issue is just a volume imbalance between FM and AM (or sat). And I wonder if there is some kind of internal adjustment or EEPROM calibration for it.

Volume?! My reception is so spotty/scratchy that I can't stand listening to FM and just turn it off. And all this just outside of town (say 5 - 10 miles) from the antennas!
This is the main reason I am upgrading the HU. I hope the unit is the problem. We will see shortly (next weekend).

OK. I don't have that problem. Sounds defective to me. I'm mainly interested in Nav as I actually like the JBL (having listened to Bose, cough, spit) in out last two cars.
