    Hello all,
As promised to a few out there I complied the instructional contents (pretty much verbatim) of the thread: Fog Lights: Install [Retrofit] fog lights on 2010 Prius into a document (attached). I left out the instructions for adding an OEM stalk. The document is from the prospective of installing the OEM-Style Yaris light kit with the OEM covers. I add a few lines on how I hooked up the Yaris wiring harness.
Perhaps others would like to create an addendum for that (the stalk) and the other advanced installation instructions in the thread?
The main purposes of this document is to preserve the original thread, and condense the information. A huge thanks to those that forged ahead on the modification and took the time to write up the instructions! They are mentioned in the forward of the document.
BTW, I really dislike documenting (I am a programmer) so please don't complain.
edit [4/5/12] - Added a diagram for a under the hood wiring solution.

This is fantastic. A LOT to digest, but a HUGE thanks! OK, how much time do you estimate it will take a lay-person to do the install?

Also, what are the differences/benefits/disadvantages of using the Yaris foglamp over the OEM foglamp for the Prius? Does one fit better? Look better? Thanks.

It took me about 4 hours (I have previous experience). Much of the time spent running the wires.
Since I don't have the OEM lamps, I can't answer which is better to use. All I know is that the knock-offs are much cheaper and to me, they look fine... YMMV.

    Spiderman,

Firstly thanks for the write up this is exactly what I needed. Just have a few questions. What was the total cost? Does the Yaris switch fit into the Prius pop-outs on the dash?

Costs will vary depending on what route you go. For me, I paid $73 for the covers (parts.com) and $69 for the Yaris Light kit (ebay). So $142 total w/ shipping. And for the most part the switch fits. The tabs on the switch are a bit shy so they don't click into place. However the friction is more than enough to keep it in place.

    hi
i accidentally bought the blue blinglights fog lights and have someone installed them. They look ok, but not as good as the retrofit. The lights are bright though, I am attaching the fotos just for your reference.

Not bad. It appears you used the original inserts, yes?

    Wiring harness

I'm having an issue with the wiring harness in the 3rd party Yaris kit off ebay.

The lights work fine when I put the main wire to 12v so I know they're functional but when I hook up the 2nd part of the harness (the part with the relay and switch) it simply doesn't light up.

I can hear the relay switching but no power to the lights.

Has anyone else had a bum wiring harness/relay with the Yaris kit?

    Thanks,
    -Tim

    Re: Wiring harness

If you are sure you hear the relay working than I suspect the power wire (for the lights) to the relay (in) is not hot. That wire should be wire to a steady on 12volt source. I used an open plug in the fuse box under the hood. If you are too, check to see if it is live.

Thank you for taking the time to put this documentation together.

Monday, 12/7 I printed out both the Calvert and Hawkmoon installations. Didn't think anyone would provide something like yours so soon. Boy was this a convoluted thread with so many tangents. I received the covers today waiting for the lights.

2 additions that I think are good, but left out, is Calvert's wiring diagram and push-in fasteners for the light assembly. There was another wiring diag. in the thread also; can't find it now. I think it was tip74 or jayvee?

I have not worked on any car modifications since high school 1964; on my 1st one a '51 Chevy PU, 6V, floor pedal starter. I may hand this off or ask for help from a younger expert more familiar with the electrical. I cringe just thinking about taking my new Prius apart.

Anyway, Thanks ALL of YOU mentioned in the Forward for your pioneering efforts. This PriusChat Forum is my 1st venture into a Chat Forum. A positive experience.

Seems reasonable. I think for DRLs to be effective they need to be higher up.
What I would really like doing is modifying the headlight casing. The fake LED shaped decorations in there I would like to replace with high intensity LEDs and wire for DRLs. If it appeared I could do it without removing the clear cover I would have already.

That's easy... in the fuse box under the hood, there is a tap as noted in document. It is plug and play for fog light kit. There is a photo in the document that shows it. I am 99% sure it is only active when in Ready.

    wow...50pgs later :p
just got our Pearl IV yesterday :D ....and both noticed it didn't have fogs...huh? o well, so google search started and here I am.

one question: what about adding a lo-pro H3 HID kit to this mod?
I know the housings aren't designed for this but the light output will still be better than the 55w H3s.

Try it and let us know how it goes. I will add the information to the document. If the HIDs put out a lot of heat it will likely be a problem as the housing is plastic.
I am really happy with the H3s though. Enough light for me.

I think I'll try them in my '09 Corolla first...I think they are the same lights... The OE Corolla S fogs are a joke, output wise. The first time I turned them on I didn't even notice, LOL ...got into some fog the other day and actually saw some light to the sides :p
I'm figuring the lowest K rated bulb I can find will be best for fogs...nothing more than 4300, at least.
The 'lo-profile' H3 HID conversion bulbs that I've seen are a little shorter than usual so aren't too close to the lens. People I know who have converted their aux driving lights like Hella 500s are have no issues with harming the plastic lenses, at least with the 35w bulbs...so far...:p

I never really used my fog lights on my Gen2 Prius except as daytime running lights. So I got some LED lights that draw less energy. They were only $22 for both at Napa, including boot. Just attached wires to top marker light wire. See manual for two items to move aside on passenger side. Unbolted bottom plastic covering for access. Used a knife and file to gradually get to the right size, and it all fits in nice and snugly.

    Spiderman.

I can't believe I just found your installation instructions. I ended up paying over $200 for the Toyota dealership's mechanic to install it. I got exactly what you got but I was told he had cut and extend few other places on the harness.

I have a question. Since I used the on/off switch that came with it, I only see the indicator light on the switch turned on but not on the dash display. From what you have done to your car and they way your wired it, does the dash indicator show the fog light when it is on?

Another thing is my driver side is having lot of condensation. Anyone has this problem? What is the remedy?

    Thanks a million!
