I test drove a 2010 Prius IV w/nav today and was bummed out by the IPhone (3GS here) integration -- specifically that the USB connection stopped working 3 different times during the test.

I was aware of the sub-optimal scrolling capability of the nav screen, but I was figuring I would get around that with creative playlist creation. However, during the drive the IPod stopped playing through my playlist on 3 different times. One time I saw a message that the connection to my IPod was lost, even though I hadn't done anything and the IPhone itself was still shown as being charged.

Also I noticed a "crackly" sound to the audio on a few occassions. Anyone else seen this?

I like the car enough to buy it, but if this is a known issue without a workaround I can't get it. Bluetooth audio isn't an option for me b/c I like the ability to seek through songs using the steering wheel controls.

Does playing through AUX with LiquidAUX give one the ability to control songs plays/playlists via the steering wheel controls built into the Prius? Don't you have to attach some separate kind of control mechanism to the steering wheel?

I have found the reliability of the USB port in the Prius with the iPhone sketchy at best, but I find that to be the case with most third-party devices and the iPhone (clock radios, etc.). I think we just ask the iPhone to do too much when it is operating off a mobile network, Bluetooth, and a USB connection, all at the same time.

With the Prius audio, I use the iPhone via streaming bluetooth, and use a stand alone iPod with the USB connection. I have a cable for the AUX port, but have not used it. You can't operate the iPhone via streaming bluetooth via the touch screen (except to play or pause), but it's fine for short trips. For longer trips, I use the iPod via USB and take advantage of a lot of playlists.

When you say sketchy at best, are you referring to the same issue I was talking about, in which the connection to the Iphone is lost entirely?

Not specifically, but for example, my iPhone will give an error message saying it is "not compatible" with this device (the Prius) when connected via the USB port. When plugged in, it sometimes gets incoming emails, sometimes not. I never had an incoming call when plugged into the USB, but I would not be surprised if it had that problem you described.

When running via streaming bluetooth, incoming emails and phone calls work just fine. With emails, the incoming email audio cue can be heard over the Prius audio, but nothing else happens. With an incoming call, the iPod function pauses, and the call takes over. The streaming bluetooth works so well, that I have not spend a lot of time troubleshooting the USB connection and just use a standard iPod with the USB.

I just got my Prius Monday and had a few issues with my iPhone 3gs as well. I tried all the connections and BT streaming is the best hands down. I'd recommend using the BT audio streaming and phone and having a good charger on stand by for those longer trips so you don't drain your iPhone's battery. Good luck.
