Hey all - new Prius owner here. Trying to get all the whizbangs to work on the new Prius and for the life of me can not get the cigarrette lighter-style power, the aux jack, or the USB input inside the center console to work with the iPod or any other 12v powered items. It seems like the 3 items are not even hooked up to anything (although the USB tab does show up on the NAV in the 'dimmed' look). Is there any setting I need to be aware of to "turn on" these three items or are they non-functional and thus a warranty item? I am no tech-idiot, but admit this is a new car and I am still learning.

This has all been attempted with the car on and off, and the 12v power jack in the storage area under the shift handle works great.

    Thanks for any ideas.

The only one of these that I have tried on my car is the USB port. I plugged in a memory stick with MP3 files and the USB tab changed from gray to normal and the song file names began to show up. Then the first song began to play.

I did not do anything prior to plugging in the the memory stick.

Forgive my manners, I forgot to say welcome to PC first !!

Let me ask this, would not having connected this car to the Safety Connect feature cause these items to be disabled? Bought this car on Saturday, so the crew that was around seemed a bit lost on the whole Safety Connect aspect - I guess the guy that knows all of that was out for the day.

Will likely be calling the dealer tomorrow, but I'd still like to hear any other ideas that might pop up.

No, they should have nothing to do with Safety Connect. If they do not work, thing are probably disconnected. The 12v outlet is controlled by a fuse, so you might want to check it. But that fuse has nothing to do with the USB or AUX ports, which should be connected to the NAV unit. My guess is that the connectors under the center console got messed up somehow.

I suggest just taking it back to the dealer.

Thanks. Yeah, the first thing I did was check all of the possible fuses, but all were fine. Need to give the dealer a call today, I guess.

I'll post what the problem is when it is finally determined. It may be a few days.

I thought I would give an update on this problem I reported last week after we bought the car...

First, the USB function started working when I re-tried it mid-week. I have no idea why it didn't work last weekend, but it seems to be doing fine now, and actually I am fairly pleased with how the NAV-screen functionality is for controlling the iPod after reading about how bad it was here on Prius Chat. I did find that for scrolling downwards through the artist list (other album list, or whatever) on the screen, holding the down button makes the scrolling go a lot faster than going 5 at a time, page by page, pushing the button time after time. Unfortunately, you have to guess where you are using the scroll bar on the right because the alphabet you're scrolling through doesn't show on the screen until you stop and see what artist you are at. This requires a bit of estimating on the user's part, but I think most iPod users typically have that skill to start with.

The 12V power outlet not functioning was due to a fuse stuck in the wrong port that I somehow missed when I checked for that my first time troubleshooting it last weekend. Dealer seemed to find that problem fairly easily.

The AUX function being MIA was real pain for the dealer to find and ended up taking 2 hours of wire tracing and checking to locate the problem area. After the connection was fixed, we now have full functionality of the AUX, USB, and 12V outlet in the center console.

I am happy now and have my tunes cranked. The JBL system really sounds fine to me with the iPod and some fine tuning to the audio settings. Good enough to drown out some of the road noise quite well.

After having so many similar annoyances with the USB interface, I too have decided to abandon ship for the AUX connection. Personally, I prefer navigating through music and playlists on my iPhone anyways. But I have the same problem as you with the AUX port!!

Any tips for my dealer that could save time on the fix? I'm gonna bring it in sometime this weekend.

Sorry, I guess the tech had to resort to hunting through the wiring checking for connectivity. It apparently wasn't a simple thing to find. He finally narrowed it down and got it fixed, but it took a couple hours.

Luckily, all was covered free of charge with the warranty.
