Is there a difference in pickup between the 2006 and 2005 Prius?

Tell them you want to see the title, or the sale is off. At least you will be able to see if "Salvage" is on the title. I'm pretty sure they can't sell you one without telling you about it, but you never know with some dealers.

Surely you bargained the car down to $15,000? (i.e. it wasn't advertised at $16,000)

I can't stand car salesmen, either. I've got the price down to $15,000, but the car has 63K miles and is in black. So you think I could get the price down farther? Total price (keys in hand) is $16,288.

We don't have time to search for 6 months, though. We have twins arriving in 2 months or so.

Another question. I'm able to access the entire service record online by registering at toyota.com and entering the VIN ;-) Here's a strange entry:

1 11/30/2009 INSTALL AFTERMARKET ASSEMBLY INTERNAL (DEALER) PAY
2 11/30/2009 SUBLET REPAIRS INTERNAL (DEALER) PAY

This is part of dealer prep. What are "sublet repairs"? What sort of "aftermarket assembly" should be installed?

One more thing. The car looks like it has brand new tires. I found this service entry prior to sale:

CUST REQUEST CHECK TIREWS FOR EXTRAMILE REPLACEMENT PROGRAM ~|~CUST DOES NOT QUAULIFY FOR E.L.T. TIRE PROGRAM ~|~CUST DECLINED WORK AT THIS TIME.

    What is this?

I did a quick search on cartrader.com in your area, as well as looking at edmunds.com, and it appears that Prius prices are considerably lower where you are than in Austin, Texas. Cartrader listed a 2006 Prius with 36K miles (fewer options, but backup camera) for $14,950, and that's before any haggling. By comparison, a search on autotrader.com for my area revealed a 2006 Prius with 50K miles, not certified, selling for $16,899.

Go around the salesman and ask the service department directly. They'll probably be more direct in their answers. Good trick to find it on toyota.com, I wasn't sure if you could do that before buying the car.
