The wife did tell the SA that the car needs 0w20 but they know all:rolleyes:

The service department was closed when I got home on Saturday

I will send Toyota Canada an email, since they paid for the service
    ALso I guess I will go https://clubtoyota.toyota.ca/tohp/experience/en/home/index.jsp?wosid=B2s5TTbLt1NcMrqliPBKBw&woiid=5

    And see what there

Maybe I should post something on their facebook page

It the old story bad news travel fast then good news
Also the wife was not happy with the way she was treated there
It sure was not like you get treated in BMW dealership

got a call from the service manger
He said they had no 0-w20, so they used 5 w20, which Toyota said was OK
If you look on page 560 of the manual it indicates 5 w20 is OK for a Prius
Was at another dealer , which had small bottles of Toyota 0w20, there is no indication of 0 w20 being synthetic oil

So do we have synthetic oil from the factor?

You should now call the parts dept of the place that did the service and ask them if they carry the Toy 0W-20 in quarts. I suspect they do and you will have them over the barrel there. That oil is full synthetic or at least they were @ my stealership.
I would be mad if they pulled that on me but in the end, other than possibly a small hit in FE there shouldn't be a problem.

The price for the small bottles was only $5.70 a bottle( not sure if the bottles are quarts or litres)
at $5.70 it is not synthetic oil

I have to admit that I did not actually look at the bottle but did ask the parts guy if it was full synthetic and he said "yes".
In any case, call your parts place (where you had the service) to see if they have the 0W-20 Toyota oil in stock. If so, call the service department back and call them on it. Tell them you want the 0W-20. If not, no big deal. I would find it really hard to believe they do not have it.
The issue is that they didn't use the proper weight... not that it was synthetic, right? As far as we all know there is no dino 0w-20. That leaves full or partial syns.

It seems all you need is a VIN & a date to register a car. Seems like you should be able to check up on a car sitting on any lot.

Pray tell how do you look up the service records for your car?? I'd assume there is none, since I have only 1K on mine and have not been to dealer since picking it up.

I have always changed my own oil. Upon getting my new Prius I had it on the rack the first day,------ it is buttoned up underneath. I couldn't find where the oil drain plug, or the filter were. Couldn't see them. You must have to remove one or more of those plastic panels under the engine to even get at the plug, or filter. If anyone has done this, what is the proceedure?? Thanks for any help.

This is my first Toyota, I am soooo confused with their service departments
After taking going to a BMW dealer where they had CAPPUCINO & DONUTS:D and the car would washed and did not smell of gease
Toyota dealer was a big let down
And the BMW dealer would use lube so the invoice did not look to bad:rockon:

Register at the site in post 26 7 enter the VIN. You should find 3 or 4 entries. Anything a dealer did is recorded.

Thank you JimN. It was right there in front of me and I didn't know what I was looking at. Have done it and no records yet. So dealer didn't do anything I guess, but clean it up for delivery. :)

Makes me afraid to use the Toyota service department! Do you think local mechanics know how to service hybrids. When I bought it the dealer didn't even open the hood so don't know if it's like a non-hybrid to change the oil. Being a female buying a car is not a good thing! I would rather not go back there to have it serviced if I don't have to.

Umm, was it a red bottle of Toyota 0w-20? If so it's printed on the label Full Synthetic.

I have 2010 Prius III, I do chang the oil & filter myself. As it is indicated inthe manual; you first oil change must use 0-W20, after that you may use 5-W20.
Since I drive in freeway a lot, I use 0-W30 which is cheaper and it is sold at wallmart.
As I said first oil must be 0-W20. If you are able to read Japanies; go Toyota Japan web site, it will explain why?????

I chang my 2010 Prius' oil myself. As a female I suggest you buy oil filter on line and oil 0-20W or 0-W30(warmer weather area/ freeway drive) at wallmart; and have local oil service place change you prius oil!!!!!!!!!!

My Dealer has been great, but they advertised to me a free 5k service. I had the service done, and only now realize that they didn't do the tire rotation the first time. Now that I paid, at 10k they definitely did. I'm wondering if they were really being that cheap, or if it was just an oversight and I'm reading too much into it. None-the-less I think I will just continue with 10k rotation intervals, especially since I am now paying. lol
