On 6:40am day after Christmas on my way to work a deer and I collided as I was going 45mph. Deer hit the front pass side fender, headlight, bent the hood and the pass door won't open, front ground effect area is cracked/ripped. The deer was still alive, so I called the police and continued on my way to work.

I was pretty lucky we collided as we did so that the deer didn't come thru the windshield. I'm dreading going thru the insurance process, in particular dealing with the repair shop. My questions for anyone who is willing to answer is as follows:

Will they use Toyota parts ?
Will the insurance company reinstall my VentureShield "clear bra" that cost me $600-
When they replace the HID headlight will they use the Toyota bulb as I've hears it's very pricey to replace one in the future?

Sorry to ramble but I'm dreading the whole process!

    Vince3151,

Well first of all, Glad your Safe! That's most important.

Now for the Car...Insist on only Genuine Toyota Parts as replacement at the Delaership. Use a Toyota Dealership.

If the Venture Shield was in place at time of accident I would insist to the Insurance that it be replaced. Now is the time to look or get a copy of the receipt and when installed. That you may need since it was not part of the original car, but an aftermarket installation.

They should replace your HID with HID, like for like, no substitution.
You can make sure it's specified on the estimate.

Also you will need a rental car so get that in the quote to submit to your insurance. You won't be able to drive your car for 3-5 days while it's be repaired at minimum.

    Good Luck!

I appreciate the quick response. Both of you are spot on, my situation could have been much worse. I feel kind of petty as this will be more of an inconvenience than the life threatening issue it could have been.

As for the receipt for the VentureShield I have it. I'll have the work done at a Toyota dealer to be sure the parts and experience is up to par.

    Thanks Guys!

The film may or may not be covered by your insurance policy. Was it listed on a rider? Not all insurance companies consider the film to be "part of the car". If the headlight assembly doesn't come with a bulb they may use your old one. As already mentioned, you have to approve the repairs & the shop. Selecting a good shop is more important than going to a dealer just because they are a dealer. Not all dealers have their own body shops.

I found a Toyota dealer Darmouth Toyota that is a "Toyota Ceritified Collision Center" one of four existing is MA. The website says they are a Prius and Hybrid Toyota certified repair shop and give a free loaner vehicle. For a "Toyota Ceritified Collision Center" a third party monitors your satifaction with the service.. I'll keep you posted

First thing - Glad you're ok. You can always get another car, but you can't get another You!

Not sure how your insurance works over there so I won't even attempt to answer other than to say hope it all goes well.

I went through this a year ago when my Prius was 6 months old.
sure enough they wanted to hand me a check within 2 hours of the incident.
I refused the check as my collision shop had not even seen the car yet.
A claims adjuster came to where I worked!

They also tried to "steer" me to one of their "approved" shops.
When an insurance company approves a shop, it means they will work favorably to save the insurance company money.

They wanted to use an after market fender, and a refurbished headlight assembley.
They were nickle and diming my collision shop.
AS for the headlight assembley, I would have accepted that if they would have given me a written guarantee that it would continue to match the other headlight as long as a new one would.
    Not a chance.
I did get it fixed though, from my shop, to my approval.

Years ago, we had a Subaru that was hit by another car, their fault.
Car had the Subie for 2 months, and when I checked on it, there were some things they had no intention of fixing to my satisfaction, straightening the pinshweld below the rocker, and removing the dent in the unibody underneath the car. They never thought I would look!

    Good Luck!

Twice...One was alive and one was dead. The dead one caused more damage.

First, congratulations on surviving without personal injuries. As long as you have your life and health, the other things are not so important - its just money.

I think they will cover the shield if it was originally listed. Was it in the original invoice? Did you tell the ins company when you first get insurance.

I had a 4 year old Lexus that went to an approved body shop. Got all new Lexus parts. I used AMICA as my insurance co - highly rated by a consumer magazine. I think it depends on your insurance co. Some companies have good price and others are good with consumer magazines.

Getting the car back Friday, I can't wait as the free loaner I got from body shop is a 2010 Toyota Siena at 20.2MPG...ughhhh. My commute to work is 120 miles round trip. The final repair bill was $5400-. I know that sounds crazy but 3K was for a complete wiring harness.

It appears that some connectors behind the headlight were damaged and the Toyota guide or whatever the shop uses for advice called for a new wiring harness. The body shop guy said typically something like that is $1200- or so but the Prius is a whole different story.

My insurance company has been great no push back and they are also covering my clear bra that was installed aftermarket.
