    Hi. ive been away. heh

anyway i got an open letter today from toyota stating that they
are officially announcing a support program for people who had to pay for replacement bulbs. there are instructions on how to get reimbursed.
they also officially announced that they are dropping the MSRP to $150 a bulb for the 2004 - 2009 models.

i already got reimbursed for 2 bulbs for $338 so the letter does not really apply to me.

i browsed the letter sounds like they are not going to reimburse people who paid for a new hid computer

apologies, ive been kind of busy and hiding from this forum, haha just kidding, anyway i am sorry if this letter has been posted before..

GOOD LUCK all you HID people

How on earth do you conclude that?

It pretty clearly says reimbursement for:

"The full cost of replacement of HID headlight control ECUs for 2006-2009 Prius vehicles."

I just got off the phone with my "case manager" where I expressed my disappointment with her offer of a one time "good will gesture" to cover half the cost of the one HID headlight....nothing on the other that is now blinking ...when I asked if I could speak to someone else, she replied that she was the corporate contact and it was essentially take it or leave it offer...I declined...very disappointing "customer service" from Toyota on this issue......we have had toyotas for years, and was considering gen III to replace 2007 touring with 69,000 miles...but not unless they do better than this...lower the price to $150 on the bulb???!??!?,,, what is that??? not satisfactory !!!!

Hello! My 2006 Prius driver's side headlight started winking at about 34,000 and we were told it wasn't covered under the factory warranty, however they would replace it for us for a mere $375. We've been living with it up to now. I've been seeing so much flak online from other Prius owners that I recently filed a complaint with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Also I've been seeing--and confirming that contrary to the dealership insistance, it is NOT necessary to remove the bumper--even according to my Owners Manual page 420! Luscious Garage in San Francisco has a great You Tube video showing bulb replacement in 5 minutes! And there are other You Tube videos showing bulb replacement. When I asked the dealership service guy to explain this, he gave me the Toyota Customer Experience Center phone number, 800.331.4331, and suggested I take it up with them. So I did! I now have a "case number" and instructions for how to fax a reimbursement package to Toyota for up to $150/bulb (which probably wouldn't pay the entire bill). The Toyota CS guy quoted from a TSB but said he couldn't provide it to me--gave me a website (toyotaownersonline.com) where I could find it, but I couldn't find it. I called Toyota again and was promised they would call back tell me where it is. We'll see if they follow through. Now that I see the letter they sent you, I'm going to request they send me a personal letter too, that I can take to my dealer. If all else fails, I may order the bulbs online and do the replacement myself!! Thanks for attaching your letter.

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone else with current information on how to get Toyota to take responsibility for what was originally a defective system.

    Wish me luck! :cheer2:

Forget Toyota, check out hidnation.com they are $37.00 for the entire set including the ballast and bulb. Just installed the set this weekend and they are amazing. I got the 6K bulbs.

I just received my letter last week. I bought my 2006 with 47K and took it back as soon as I got it home because the headlights were out. I took it back and they said they couldn't find a problem. I have been dealing with this for a year. The lights go off, you turn them off and back on and they come back on. I am now out of the 50K extended warranty that they issued according to this letter. It also states that you can be reimbursed if you have proof. I do have proof but did not have anything replaced. Therefore my local Toyota dealer says that there is nothing they can do for me and that I need to call the customer service line. I'm calling tomorrow. I will update if I get any good news.

Oh, do you have a part number for that HID package from hidnation.com?

    Thanks

What do I have to do to get my headlamp replaced? Just call the local dealer and ask them to fix it?

Call the dealer, and you may need to mention the warranty extension to 50,000 miles.

THats what i did, and after 15 minutes of them looking it up, they agreed to cover it. Of course i took it to a closer dealer who was completely on the ball about it and said it was covered before i even asked.

Ok, I just called the dealer they said they know about the class action lawsuit, but its still going to cost me $300.00 that I then have to be reimbursed for. Aren't they Toyota?

They extended the warranty to cover this. you should not have to pay out of pocket. (i did not, and mine was done about 3 weeks ago)
