Now that is amusing. So Audi A3 2010 depreciation over and above same year Prius depreciation is *already*
    7000 - (5000 - dealer_profit)

    $4000 ?

    Keep on believing dude.

You apparently haven't read CR reliability charts before - the younger years show fewer issues because they are younger cars. When they reach the same age the 07's are now, they won't look much better - although CR does indicate that they will go from the 07's "BAD" to "marginal/fair".

The Prius charts are a lot less black.

But for f**k's sake, get rid of your Prius - you obviously can't handle the mental anguish of seeing your mileage drop so much in the wintertime, regardless of what it does in warmer months.

Spending more for an Audi will be cheaper than a therapist (although that's what you really need)...

What can I say... that's what they told me... like I said there is no garantee, probably because they are not sure if they could ever find one like I want available... again, it must be a used one with at least 15K on it like my Prius... maybe they just want me around until I consider a new one... who knows? I like to hang out in the Audi dealer if nothing else :)

BTW, here is what the MSRPs are:

$29,950 (my dealer's asking price for basic black (a beauty!!!), no preium color) - $24,639 (my model III with premium color, mats, and bumper protection thing according to Toyota's website) =

$5311 , NOT 7K like you guys are saying!

Resale value of Toyotas is typically the highest along with Hondas... and the 2010 Prius has very high demand... so I really can see why my dealers are making me belive a 5K difference could do it...

Not to worry, and I'm quite sure quite a relief to many here on your behalf, the Audi will continue to depreciate faster than your Prius, even with the miles you put on it. The exchange will reach your transaction amount, all you have to do is STFU and wait patiently.

Now, why THAT isn't a cause for worry for you, is the point of this entire thread: you do not have a clue, and simply enjoy a whine-fest. Carry on, but please restrict yourself to this thread. Then we can effectively ignore you.

Last post? How about just telling me what STFU means? Another one of those good manners?

If you really want to ignore me, you know you can... but it looks like you have not being able to, isn't it?

    Interesting...

You're the one ignoring any helpful suggestions from all the people who have offered them (see previous 26 pages). How much grille blocking did you try? Block heater much?

We've now reached the "compassion fatigue" point, and want you to man up or get the hell out - continued whining while ignoring any suggestion which requires action on your part will get you LESS sympathy, not more.

How can you say that? I did ask "Santa" to change my Xmas gift to a scangauge because of your all suggestions. I did measure the water temp in my last trips and reported it here. I did buy the pipe insulation and plan to block the grills soon, but I need to observe RPM in my next trips before I do that. I am generating the most comprehensive and larger collection of HWY MPG data I am aware of in this forum and my dealer manager is particularly excited about it. I have statisticians looking at it and I plan to write a nice report after I collect 100 trips. I did buy the Prius because most of you convinced me it was a better idea than the Jetta TDI back on July. I did give several suggestions to other people about improving FE in the summer. I did enjoy chatting with you all, but after all, if there is a common desire for me to stop posting here... fine... now, I'm hurt! :(

Hard data is alway welcome - if after doing all this you still have significantly lower-than-average mileage, then it's entirely possible something else is wrong with your Prius. 38mpg highway is definitely a fair chunk below what I'm getting even in 20F, but there could be many other differences. One advantage of the mpg indicator (as I found when I got a flat) is that when something different is happening, it's noticable right away. Have you considered that cold temps may have been partially coincidental rather than the whole cause?

What we would like to see is testing of various possible causes and the results of those tests, rather than speculation about what those results might be or complaints about the money currently be ing lost. If it was purely about the money, you wouldn't have bought a Prius, you would have gotten a moped or a Lexus.

Statisticians and myself (I do know a bit of statistics) will look at the data and factor in everything to see what is coincidence or real change. Even if I trade-in my Prius for the A3, the Audi dealers are not optimistic about getting me anything before summer or even later because the car was released several months after the Prius. By that time I should have 100 or close to that number of trips in my Prius. Trading it or not, I will write the report to my dealer, which will forward it to Toyota engineers...

You may not realized but you have been stepping on proud owners of previous and current gen Prius toes.

You don't get to bash Prius and be my friend. If your job is to bring negativity about the Prius to the discussion and being a Green Human, sorry you are out of work. This stops right here.

My experience of you is that you are not a proud owner. You don't take pride or show appreciation of the awesome technology packaged in the Prius. You focus on every negative things about the Prius and try to reflect it to Toyota reliability. I have not seen a genuine, constructive and proactive post to improve your MPG.

You seem to be committed to show the low MPG of the Prius and love to point out how a similar number can be achieved in a Diesel. Many of us advised you hybrid specific tips to improve your Prius MPG. I have a feeling that you hesitated to follow them probably because these tips do not work for a Diesel.

I do not wish you to stop posting but I do wish to make a guess. Next year, you will buy a TDI and repeat the "same" test and report to us your TDI MPG. The Prius MPG you reported already do not align with what others reported here -- especially for someone who act to enjoy high MPG and save money on fuel. Your numbers are questionable and they are as good as the Green Human stunt.

If feelings will be hurt, I apologize in advance for giving you my honest feedback.

I'm talking about a report with a significant number of trips "n", statistical power, and adequate scientific analysis... in other words, rule in or out all common beliefs about influence of major external factors on FE... If you know it already, fine, I'm not making this study for you... the main reason is my own passion for collecting and analyzing data... I'm a scientist and if I produce valuable data, why not to share with whoever is interested?

Maybe we should suggest to the Chat Owner to post the following disclaimer in the first page of the forum:

Caution, this is a forum for proud owners... Bashers are not welcome.

Come on... this is a forum of discussion, isn't it? What is the point of just prasing something without showing its weaknesses? I am not the only one... I'm just a bit more persistent.

Really interesting you mentioned this. Do a search and tell me who has posted more about diesel vs hybrid... mysellf or you? If I'm not mistaken, you are the one always questioning about the benefits of the TDI technology here, aren't you? I have no intention to endorse any diesel car, or any other car in the world for that matter. Because I drive hwy only and a lot, the comfort and features of the A3 TDI would be a tremendously better choice for me than the Prius... I knew it back on July but I thought the A3 was not going to be released until spring of 2010. I did not trust on the Jetta reliability. That's it! Now, in 3-4 years, when my travels are supposed to stop and my commute will potentially be just 5 miles of city driving, I won't even consider a hybrid or a diesel at all unless gas prices will be out of control, like $8-10 for a gallon.

I know well who most respond or look for my posts. If a significant number of those names would like me to stop posting on this chat, not just in this thread, fine, please post your preference and I will do it. Don't wanna bother anymore if that is indeed happening.

Oh my... never mind... sometimes you just have to let some posts go... not worth the energy trying to explain it again...
