This sounds like a serious contender and it is easy on the eyes:

I'm no fan of the TDIs primarily because of their specifications, user reported mileage, ignorant marketing, and small size. But this little pocket rocket looks like a fun boy toy to tool around in. Best of all, it looks like pre-production ... I'm not a fan of 'concept cars' either. But if they incorporate the 'coast down,' it will be an awesome fun wagon.

Hi Bob, I saw this car upclose yesterday at the Detroit auto show, and I would agree that it is impressive. However, upon talking to many VW reps, I would characterize their attitude as "Me Too". I think they feel that with all the hype about hybrids, if they didn't have something to show, they would be looked on as old technology. So I don't think they are serious about this.

What a shame. It has all of the elements and they have the skills to do it right.

It is a shame that to get something like this, someone at Ecomodder will have to build it ... which is what we do over there.

    its not a diesel
    TSI is gas/petrol

also here in the EU where those small 1.4 TSI etc etc are already driving around for some time people see lower mpgs because the cars have higher Horse power that is used by the owners instead of having a small 1.4 TSI for efficientie with less power so it wil not be a sports car
if these small ice's in the cars are driven like a sports car because the power is there to do so the turbo will lower the mpgs.

An assist gas-electric hybrid from VW. The MG is more powerful than IMA and the ICE can disengage from the MG. It will have more flexibility but involve a clutch.

I wonder why they put it in a 2 door.

This may compete with the upcoming Toyota 3-door dedicated hybrid or even the FT-CH.

Has anyone seen any specs on this? Is VW offering projected consumption figures? It does look nice (especially for a VW coupe).

I think VW are serious about Hybrids. They have shown other concepts in hybrid form. The DSG transmission seems beautifully suited to this application due to it's highly programmable nature. VW has an all new vehicle planned for the US market to be built in their new Kentucky plant. It is considered by many to be the Passat replacement. My guess is that it too will offer a hybrid power system. VW has a bluTec Passat in Europe that gets 44mpg. I'm very interested in seeing a larger sedan/wagon that can get super mileage from VW.
