I just bought a 'Certified' used 09 ' Touring with 15K miles from Toyota of Marin. It has about 2 years and 21K miles remaining on factory warranty. They sold me the Platinum 100K 7 yr $0 deduc for $1450.

They told me that the day the car is sold is the only day I could buy the Platinum for that price and they showed me a schedule/chart that said if I waited 2 years until my factory was nearly up this same warranty would cost $2,200 and be going up over time to $3K. I'm wondering if because the car is used the situation is different in that the Platinum is not available for regular price as long as the factory warranty is still in place or if they were lying to me as sales pressure?

The warranty is called "Toyota, Factory-Backed, Certified Platnium" and it excludes rotors and drums that I had replaced for free under my previous 04's Platnium warranty that was purhased for the new car.

Personally, I think they are feeding you a line.

I wonder if the prepaid maintenance contracts will be less expensive with the new oil change interval of 10000 miles.

Yes, but synthetic oil was always required for the Gen III, and I think the official change to 10,000 mile oil change intervals for the Gen III occurred only recently. So it seems to me that the cost of the prepaid maintenance plan should go down and Gen III owners who have already purchased the plan should get a partial refund.

Gen III is the 2010, right? Since I was taking the Prius in for the 5K service I looked in the manual and it did not specify synthetic. The wife has the Prius now and I can't look in the manual but I'm pretty sure it didn't require synthetic.

The dealer was going to use a combo synthetic/natural oil, but since our Prius came with 2 free 5K services that specified synthetic, I insisted on that. I didn't get any kind of receipt from them, they said it would come in the mail. I wonder if that is normal?

Ok...I finally got the new plans and pricing for the Auto Care maintenance plans from Toyota Financial Services.

There are now two versions of the Premium Auto Care plan for the 2010 Prius models using synthetic oil:

A ) Same as before...5,000 mile oil change interval, and services every 5,000 miles with choices of coverage for 2, 3, or 4 years. They're now calling this an optional program. Which is also recommended for use with vehicles that should be using the 'Special Operating Conditions Schedule' as defined in your Scheduled Maintenance Guide. Pricing for this plan remains unchanged.

B )10,000 mile oil change interval. With the new plan, vehicles are still serviced every 5,000 miles but they just change the oil and oil filter at every other service. They would still get the tires rotated, the chassis lubrication, and 19 point inspection at each service....and the major services at each 15,000 mile interval that applies.

For the 4 yr / 55,000 mile plan, pricing is as follows:
    5,000 mile interval - MSRP $1620.00 - PriusChat price = $1075.00
    10,000 mile interval - MSRP $1280.00 - PriusChat price = $830.00

Feel free to PM or email me with any questions.

So, the oil change interval for 2010 Prius is 5K miles or 10K miles?
My salesman told me it's 5K miles

True, the original 2010 Prius Owner's Manual only says 0W-20 oil every 5000 miles.

But while it does not specify synthetic oil, I think (but am not certain) that 0W-20 is not available or widely available in conventional, dino, non-synthetic oil.

Boo is right on. No Dino juice in 0w-20. Hard to prove a negative, but if anyone wants to spend time looking for it, search on ~

    Troy,

I have a 2010 Prius with about 8k miles on it now. I'd be very interested pricing on the platinum 7 yr 100k mi $0 copay. If you could include the other variations of years/miles/copay etc it'd be appreciated.

    Thanks

Please pardon my asking this question if it's already been asked and I missed the answer. Is the extended warranty impacted or voided if the vehicle in question is involved in an accident?

The reason I'm asking this question is that we just purchased the Platinum Warranty for my wife and she was involved in a 51-car accident during the recent snow storm in Central Ohio. It's just possible that her 2008 Prius will be totaled, which would make this question moot, but just in case it is fixed do I need to be concerned about the warranty?

    Hi Tom,

As long as genuine Toyota replacement parts are used to replace covered components that were damaged, the new parts will also be covered by the warranty.

Only parts that are damaged by or have a failure which can be directly attributed to an accident will not be covered.

Just picked up an '07 Toyota Certified. The closer offered the Platinum warranty for $1050 with 10% down and the balance at 0% financing, and I bit. Car had 65K on it and they had just done the 60k service and installed new tires and brakes.

I'm about to buy a 2006 with 65k miles on it.

I was wondering how much the extended warranty would cost for this car??? It's the only drawback that I have now, this car would be my first hybrid and I'm just afraid I will end up spending thousands with warranty repairs...

Can someone provide an idea of price???

I don't think after your 36k warranty runs out you can get extended warranty.

The $1,055 still applies for the 7 year/100,000 miles extended warranty. Talked to Troy today and will send my paperwork in tomorrow.
