Better yet, put some of that high voltage to use :)
I don't use an alarm and would only consider a 2 way alarm if I did. Based on past experience: Don't leave valuables out in the open. Use the tonneau cover for anything in the hatch area. Don't brag about upgrades with people you don't know. I had an 80's muscle car with an alarm and some performance and stereo upgrades. The alarm never stopped 4 incidents. Stereo stolen twice, car stolen once and stripped, almost stolen 2nd time. The only thing saving the car from being stolen the 2nd time was a club. They bent the steering wheel trying to remove it.
If they want in the trunk it will happen. They will break a window and pull the trunk release or jimmy the lock with a screwdriver.
If you aren't going to buy a Prius because the hatchback window can be broken you may as well write off buying any vehicle with a hatchback, trucks, vans, and SUVs.

    It depends where you live.

Some places are rural enough that you don't have high crime density, but there are so few people a thief might think they can get away with breaking a window - but won't stick around if an alarm goes off.

Good point about vans & SUV's though - just as vulnerable as hatchbacks.

Exactly. In this area few people lock their cars. Many leave their keys in the ignition. I know of at least two trucks that are wired to not need keys.

This is also a place where a shop keeper will say "I have to run to the bank. Will you watch the till for me. If anyone comes in, you know what everything costs." It's fairly idyllic in relation to crime. Sadly, most places are not so lucky.
