We have a 2009 prius that was involved in a deer wreck. We put it in a dealer body shop. It would still drive the airbags did not de-ploy. After repairs complete the main engine light was on and then the airbag light came on. The dealer says taht it needs a diagnostic module and the rt frt impact sensor. $800 repair bill. I don't understand this since the bags did not de-ploy.

I assume that your car hit the deer on the RF side of the bumper?

The impact sensor determines the amount of deceleration and provides that info to the SRS ECU. The ECU decides whether to trigger the airbags. Although the airbags did not deploy, the sensor still needs to be replaced since it was subjected to impact.

You can also swap the LF and RF impact sensors to see whether the logged DTC changes. DTC B1610 means that there is a problem with the RF sensor while DTC B1615 points to a problem with the LF sensor. If you swap the sensors and the DTC changes, then it becomes clear that the sensor is the problem (vs. wiring harness or the SRS ECU.)

DTC B1000 means that the SRS ECU needs to be replaced. Usually that has to be replaced after the car has been in an accident where a sensor is triggered.

what airbag related parts need replacement after a front end wreck?

Are there a list of parts which bodyshops routinely replace after a front end wreck where both airbags (steering wheel & top of pssr dash) and seatbelts deployed? I'm guessing, both airbags, both seatbelts (what part of them?), both front sensors, clock spring (where is that located?), SRS ECU (which contains a shock sensor?). Or, does the bodyshop use a scanner and determine which parts to replace, and leaves the others alone? Anyone know where to get these parts for my 2004 Prius - I'm on a budget so prefer used parts (eg, www.car-parts.com).
