rear hatch door unlocking everything

I've only had my 2010 Prius (Premium) for one week and so far the only thing that I don't like is that when I open the rear hatch door it unlocks all the others as well and closing it doesn't lock anything. So when I shut it I have to remember to lock all the doors again. On my old wreck (1994 Taurus wagon) the lock on the hatch door was independent of all the other locks.
Is there any way to customize it so that opening the rear door does not unlock everything else?

In the US the locks can be customized but not sure if this includes the hatch. My default setting was that the hatch locked & unlocked all doors. This was the ONLY lock that worked the way I wanted it. There is a tit (or button) to the right of the handle (when facing the hatch) that locks all doors & hatch when pressed. If you are just closing the hatch then you aren't locking anything.

I'm in Canada and the Prius here has the user-customizable feature with the door locks but it doesn't affect how the hatch works.

This is the only lock that doesn't work the way I want it :(

That's on my Prius too but when I shut the hatch, even if I'm holding the handle, the odds are I'm gonna forget to lock it because I'm too used to the way my old car worked.

Yup. To me that's dumb. If I park the car, lock the doors and then get something out of the back before I leave, I don't want all the doors unlocked again.
Toyota's gonna have to fix that. At least give me a user-programmable option where the hatch door doesn't open anything else and locks itself when shut.
They're probably so busy with the massive recall of almost everything else they make that they'll never get around to it

I don't mind the rear hatch door "unlocking everything." But I am still getting used to the fact that closing the rear hatch door does not lock anything, including the rear hatch door. I am used to conventional cars in which you lock the doors when you leave, and lock the trunk when it's closed. So I have a bad habit of walking away from the car after closing the rear hatch door, and forgetting to lock it. (I once did this with a suitcase in the rear hatch door.) But I am sure I will get used to it in time.

Close, reach under, and press the button just to the right of the hatch button to lock again.

Some of us actually find the trunk unlock convenient. When approaching the car, I can tug on the rear handle just quick enough to unlock the car to allow my family to get in before I reach the driver's door. Or... I can open the door to load groceries while the kids load up.

Once used to it, it can become a real advantage.

This behavior can be changed by the dealer in the custom settings of the car. It cannot be altered by the owner though, as it requires a Techstream unit. Some service departments will do this free of charge, particularly if the car is near new, but some want to charge a minimum service fee to hook up the computer.

If so, I sure hope they leave the current mode the default, that is how I open the passenger side door for my passengers, I touch the rear hatch handle and all the doors unlock, then I go to my side and get in.

Does it say that in the manual? I can't find any mention of altering the behaviour of the hatch door in Section 6-2.

Honestly, it might have been something I saw in the Techstream that wasn't in the manual. I know you can change the rear hatch unlock from short press/long press to a one press/two press operation. That isn't documented in the owner's manual either. I'm pretty sure I also saw the all doors/just hatch option, but now I'll have to go check to make sure I'm not giving a false lead. Let me hook up to the car with the Techstream and get back to you on it.
