No, I don't agree that China is the worst. While traffic patterns there vary sharply by region, they seemed to drive better than Vietnam.

Couldn't agree more. As an Audi owner myself (at this time), I was very angry that they pointed the finger back on the American car buying public. To be fair to Audi, however, they never actually said that the driver's feet were too fat. Although their ultimate solution was to space the gas and brake peddles further appart. Audi did, in fact, in several press releases - point to "driver error" as the reason behind the unintended acceleration fiasco...which, by the way, coupled with how poorly they handled the PR, almost doomed the company. It was well more than a decade before Audi was able to climb out of the hole they had created for themselves. I'm sure how Audi handled this nightmare is a classical case study in business schools of what NOT to do.

OK, worst of the Asian countries I have been in, which include China, Thailand, Philippines and India.

As far as drivers in China, if memory serves me, 60 Minutes (or one of those type shows) did a GREAT show about China's new emerging driver. I had to laugh what happens when they have an accident - which is quite often. Unless it is a serious accident, the police are not involved, and there is no exchange of information (eg, insurance, drivers license, etc). The two parties involved get out and start "negotiating" a price to cover the repair. It's all handled right on the spot. I saw this on the show, but it actually happened to me during my last visit. I was a passenger in a car (with guest a Chinese driver). he was in a fender-bender...next thing I know everyone's out of the car exchanging money. Cash, right there on the spot.

China is a horrible place to drive, and has a huge (see my numbers a few posts up) number of accidents. It's basically this current generation that has begun to drive in China...10-15 years ago, only Government officials and select few drove. Extremely congested cities, inexperienced drivers and an entire wave of humanity on bikes...make Chine, IMO, a driving disaster. But hey, I haven't been in every country, so sure, i can believe there could be worse places.

I'm pretty sure it was "Koppel: People's Republic of Capitalism" that I pointed to at http://priuschat.com/forums/freds-h...c-capitalism-being-rerun-starting-2-21-a.html. I HIGHLY recommend it.

If it won't be rerun in the near future, those who like documentaries or are interested in China should definitely rent it.

Exactly right. I knew it was one of those special, or documentary type programs. It was very interesting.

Thanks for keeping the conversation going while I was sleeping. Can't expect me to stay up all night - I have a job. :)

You said you drove in many countries, for many years. What were those countries again?

    I'll talk again after work.

    But I thought you said

"But I will say that having driven in many countries, for many years, my own opinion is that Americans are - by far - the worst in terms of their ability to control their automobile."

So American's are not the worst? Good. Nice to hear. Better make that correction.

Dear race-baiter  - What part of "many countries" don't you understand? What posts are racists, as you claim? I'm still waiting....? What kind of person plays the race card on a car web site? Boggles my mind.

To anybody with one brain cell left in their head, the inference of my comparison should be very clear. But I guess I need to spell it out to the race-baiter: American drivers compared to drivers in the many countries that I have driven in...which is a LOT, but not every. My experience. Deal with it.

Finally, try getting a clue about the subject matter before you start accusing people of posting racist remarks. This just shows me you have nothing intelligent to present. For many, playing the race card is a last, ditch effort to try and shut down the discussion. Total BS.

By all means, I love tearing apart ignorant race-baiters such as yourself. I'll be here for as long as it takes.

That aside, I'm still waiting for you to show me what posts are "quite racist", as you claim? Utter slander. I'm still waiting....? What kind of person even plays the race card on a car web site? A Prius web site, no less. It absolutely boggles my mind. A driver's skills have nothing to do with race, and shame on you for trying to interject race into this. Shameful and distasteful act. Do you have some mental issues you need to work through? With that in mind, I would suggest you spend your time more wisely by getting some professional help regarding your obsessive hatred/distain of Europeans for having cut in front of you and your family while waiting in line at Disney World. Your story is absolutely priceless. I couldn't make this up, even if I tried. Anything else you want to share? What other groups do you hate, or have distain for?

Hockeydad, first I think the race statement was a bit off-base, you are right on that. But do you really need to reply in an even more combative manner? Its almost as if you're looking for a fight. Why don't we all just drop things and continue on?

The recall should include Prius models. My gas pedal sticks. Take out your floor mats. Get on the open freeway on a Sunday morning and stomp on your gas pedal agressively. My pedal has stuck several times doing this, and yours may too.

I have a 2010 Prius which I purchased in Nov. 09. I'm assuming that makes it a Gen.III. A couple of times when braking, I've noticed a sudden acceleration. Fortunately, it hasn't happened often, and at low speeds, but it definitely made me wonder. It was very odd and I never mentioned it to anyone, but now I am wondering?????

Wrong thread. This issue has been beat to death in several other threads. Look for key words like "braking issues" or "NTSB tracking braking...".

What you felt is not sudden acceleration, but a sudden drop in deceleration. When your Prius loses traction during braking, there is a short blip where it transitions to ABS friction braking. The amount of braking is reduced during the transition, and people interpret this as acceleration, even though it isn't.

Normally, I would not bother to escallate...but sorry, when someone drops the race card ON ME, yeah, it's a big deal to me. To be honest, I think it is to most people. Would you not agree? However, I do agree that this is NOT the forum for such things.

Personally, and you may disagree, but I think there are only a few things that are more vial than calling someone (directly, or indirectly) a racist, and that's particularly true given that the person doing the SLANDER, can not support her SLANDER with anything that I posted that was remotely "racist".

Having been on a lot of different internet sites, one rule of ediquette that most sites do seem to enforce (either through the moderators, or through self-policing), is that posters usually don't cross the line by saying someone's posts are "quite racist". IMO, that's crossing the line. If they do cross the line, then they better be prepared to defend what they said.

Well The prius should be recalled as well. When I brake and hit a rough surface the car shoots forward. We nearly hit a dump truck today over a manhole. Its scary.
