I've just recovered from a three-week bout of pnuemonia. And I am being driven crazy (well, crazier than usual) by a clicking and clacking sound from my console box. I have removed all objects from said box.

Prius has 20K on it, so it is still somewhat low miles. Any ideas?

Are you talking about the console between the front seats? I have never heard any noises coming from the center console.

Does it happen when the car is in motion or all the time? Could it be something rolling around in the hidden drawer?

I do not know about the gen2 but I know on my 2010 that the center console will rattle and make a similar clacking noise to how you describe it if it isn't shut 100% correctly. It drove me crazy until I worked it out.

Thank you both for the replies.

I have really been out of it with the pneumonia, more so than usual. But it seems that it only makes the noise on dirt roads -- or "uneven" roads. Since much of my driving is on dirt....

I have pulled the few things in the console -- yes the box that is between the driver and passenger seats -- out and it still does it.

I suppose I will get used to it, but just wondered if there was a screw or bolt somewhere that might need some attention. I did forget to check the "hidden drawer," but since it is so well hidden I never put anything in there, but I had better check anyway!

I've noticed that sometimes the cupholders will make noise if there is something in them. It is louder than other cars because a) the noise bounces directly from the windshield which is at just the right angle and b) the car is quiet otherwise when the engine is off.

I'm thinking you put something in the hidden drawer that you forgot about.

Check that hidden drawer with care, maybe use a long stick to pop it open. Never know what might jump out!
