Hey malorn, you run a dealership, right? Is there is GM employee pricing/whatever deal on the CTS-V? I'm serious about this.

 

I tested the CTS-V for one week.
I was driving it in a group with Ferrari F430 Scuderia, Porsche GT3, Lamborghini Gallardo, Nissan GTR, and Maserati Gran Turismo among others.
No one noticed the car until we got on a wide stretch of highway and I stomped on the throttle. The supercharger spooled right up and it took off like a rocket and left everyone in its wake.
However I noticed body roll while cornering even when the suspension was in sport mode.
I concluded that it was a Corvette with 4 doors but even better because it was comfortable and had room. The best American car in my book.

 

Not so Seville any more, is it?

Oh, to go back to the post, any sudden acceleration in a CTS-V will be directly connected your rght foot!

 

I would like to hear your impressions of the car vs a GT-R and a new E92 M3. I have not driven one and the news of body roll is a (just) little disheartening. How does it corner on the track comapred to the GT-R? I drove a Corvette Z06, but the steering feel (admittedly I'm not used to driving the car) didn't leave me feeling like I could place the car precisely (given the caveat that I am not a professional driver, and I know many others are much faster than me).

 

I have tested the GTR but not the M3. The GTR is much better than anything in its price range. The handling is crsip and dead on and plenty of oomph. An all around great handling GT car that can give the big boys trouble. Plus it has a back seat and nice build quality. The only thing I personally don't like is the styling.

I didn't drive the CTS-V or the GTR on the track but we have great mountain test courses that we use early in the morning. Towards the limit the GTR was very stable. The CTS-V exhibited body roll to the point we don't think the Magnetic Ride was working. But still a great handling car. Which means that it can be fixed or improved on easily like thicker sway bars and then it would be almost too good.

I believe the reliability on the Nissan is better than the Cadillac or BMW.

A friend who owns a GT3 and a F430 and 10 other cars told me the GTR was his favorite ride.

 

Well, since we're totally off topic anyway....would a Lotus Exige be anywhere in the running with this group? Or are you not willing to give up all semblance of creature comforts?

Edit: After checking Nurburgring laptimes, I think I answered my own question. It's not nearly as fast.

 

Actually, if I ever had to tow anything 8,000-10,000 lbs again, I'd very seriously consider a GMC Sierra Crew half ton with the Max Trailering Package

 

Hyo, Have you ever sat in an Exige? I don't know how old you are, but getting in and out of it is harder than a Ferrari or a Lamborghini or an Aston Martin because you're butt is sitting about 4" from the pavement. Plus its mighty stiff.

The CTS-V as well as the GTR is a real comfortable car.

 

About the age where a sports car and a girlfriend is sounding better all the time. I'm still young and agile enough that folding myself into an Exige hopefully wouldn't be an issue, though I must admit I've never tried it. I used to go camping on a motorcycle, and I've spent many a day on a hard bicycle seat, hundreds of miles from home. So, if a car built for speed, not comfort still keeps me warm and dry with a smile on my face, I'm good to go.

Wow, lucky! I've never driven either car but I've heard great things about the GT-R from a handling and power POV.

I do not know about the GT-R's reliability though. I remember hearing about their transmissions being unreliable. The maintenance costs are killer on the GT-R unfortunately (example at 2009 Nissan GT-R: Bargain Supercar Gets Expensive). It seems to have almost supercar-like maintenance costs. The Nissan dealer I used to visit for service in Sunnyvale, CA admitted to me that the costs for parts and fluids for the GT-R is nuts.

And really, if a woman were interested in me only because of the car I drove, she wouldn't hold my interest for long anyway. :yo:

 

I have already stripped out my Evo so giving up creature comforts wouldn't be much of a big deal. It's a bit of a touge monster.

I would LOVE to have an Exige - I spent a lot of time in an Elise and it was magic on the mountain pass-type roads that SPEEDEAMON drives. However, I could be considered in the prime age group for an Elise/Exige. I was going to ask SPEEDEAMON about the Evora because I'd very much like to have back seats.

If you have an elise or exige, you might not want to take your girlfriend out in a short skirt (unless she's an exhibitionist).

But seriously, the car's performance is worthy of the supercar tag. I don't know why you wouldn't necessarily expect supercar costs.
