SKS anyway of turning off? (pacemaker concern)

did not read anything yet
if the SKS would be harmfull for a pacemaker then there would be a warning or even SKS not installed in cars..

so dont think there is anything to wurry about.

 

onm the DVD? what DVD?
and i guess keeping away is like not going to be close to be able to touche then
al of them are inside the car no way you can be so close to touch.
the SKS can be shutdown by pressing the little button under the steering colum.( well that sin my gen 2 prius )

 

Your owner's manual should have come with a DVD covering everything you ever wanted to know about your 2010 Prius. Some people have complained they did not get the DVD.

 

For the 2010 Prius, turning off the SKS is a dealer configured option.

That said, I wouldn't worry about it for a second. Anything that emits any sort of RF is always placarded with warnings about pacemakers. It's standard "cover your butt" legal stuff. If you are going to worry about the SKS, make sure you leave your cell phone at home and don't drive in any industrialized countries. The back side of the moon might be the nearest safe place.

electric stuff on the market is suposed to be tested for EMF or EMI so ...
dont think it wil be a problem.

 

There are warnings in both the Manual and on the DVD regarding pacemakers and the SKS. I'd just have the person talk to their doctor.

 

If you are really worried about the SKS system interfering with a pacemaker, you should also turn-off any bluetooth device, and especially any cell phones in the area. (Let's face it, cell phones emit a far stronger EMF (electromagnetic field) than the SKS system or any bluetooth device.)

P.S. I wouldn't be too concerned about what the owner's manual says. They are written by technical and marketing people and edited by lawyers.

 

well ok.. i have a gen2 and not a gen3 and the gen2 did not get a DVD.
not sure if its in the manual but i personally think that if there is a real danger this not only needs to be in your manual but doctors need to know about what things your have to wurry about.

if your really have a pacemaker contact your dealer and doctor
and have them anwer your question.

These are just "Don't blame me - I warned you" messages by the Toyota lawyers. The medical relevance of SKS signals is trival compared to a cell phone, or worse yet, driving by an airport. If you really want to guard a pacemaker user's health, make sure they get supplemental CoQ10 and magnesium.

 

My father has an ICD, a device almost identical to a pacemaker. He has two cars, a Lexus LS430 and an Infiniti FX35, both with SKS. He has never had any problems.

 

This is the problem with all the warning labels that are required for 1000s of products. If you warn about everything, no matter how minor or remote a chance of it occurring, people soon ignore the warnings and you end up not warning about anything.

I have an ICD and looked into the warnings that came with my Prius and brought it up to my doctor. He basically said that there was nothing to worry about and the same warnings about pacemakers are on microwaves, cell phones, certain TVs, computers, metal detectors, escalators, any product with an electric motor, etc,etc,etc. With millions of people wearing pacemakers and hundreds of millions of products out there with warnings, if there were even an infinitesimal chance of a problem we would be reading about some occurring every day.

Lightning and asteroid strikes are more likely to get you.
