Does any one else have a problem with this this is my worst complaint and to me is dangerous.

Pulling out of any gravel road or wet paved rode if you get on the gas at all the traction control will kick in and your prius will nearly come to a stop. Pulling out on a busy road this is a huge problem for me almost been hit once in the rear becuase of this.

Not a problem for me. Just ease down on the pedal and not floor it from a dead stop.

And if it did not do that, and damage was caused to the hybrid system people would complain about the expensive repairs required... Everything is a compromise.

Flooring any car when pulling out from a gravel road is dangerous. I know waiting until you have enough room to turn safely can be hard, but think about how much time the accident and possible recovery will take.

In other not so mixed words: Slow down please.

This is a common complaint, and a solution is to buy new tires.

Since you think it is dangerous, then don't drive the car, get a different one and let the drivers who know how to drive drive them.

With this post, if you continue to drive and get in an accident, anyone will be able to point that you thought the car was dangerous, yet you continued to drive it that way. Any accident will be your fault, because you are continuing to drive a dangerous car.

Now my car has no problems. The way I drive my car is not dangerous in my opinion.

You however have identified your car with a combination of your driving style as being dangerous. For everyones sake including your own get a different car that is not dangerous for you. You will be held liable for any accident now.

I does have brand new tires happens a lot around here as they throw alot of gravel down on the roads when they are snowy. You do not have to floor it for it to happen just pull out at a normal rate.

bestmapman Thanks for your S A reply so if some one runs a light and hits me on the way home it will be my fault? The goverment has already told me to park it it is unsafe so with this warning you are now also liable if you drive yours. Really no need to attack me because i do not like this what I see as a problem with my car. I love my Prius and drive it every day. Still when I pull out I would like it to go not stop. You know gas and it should go brake and it should stop simple concept.

"The goverment has already told me to park it it is unsafe"

When did you get that. I did not get one, it must be specific to you, or most likely you are mistaken.

"Still when I pull out I would like it to go not stop. You know gas and it should go brake and it should stop simple concept."

A simple concept for most paved surface driving conditions, but you yourself said you have a gravel surface that has traction issues. It requires more than just a simple driving concept, it requires some skill regardless of the vehicle.

Sorry you feel attacked, but you are saying things that I preceive to be wrong, like the government saying not to drive your car.

Snow and lose gravel do that. It's not unique to the Prius. I have some experience driving in those conditions, and I know not to pull out until I have a lot of open road; Prius, Jeep, or anything else.

This has been on the radio and news.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said "stop driving it" if you own a Toyota being recalled because of the potential for sticking gas pedals.

That is my point the Prius has not been recalled. So even Ray LaHood's statement (since retracted) does not apply to the prius. That is why I am questioning your statements.

I have noticed in my '04, the VSC will come on briefly as I pull out of a parking lot when my wheels are on an uneven/slick (gravel) surface.

Also we recently had a lot of winter weather here in NC. I did not experience too many problems on the snow/ice. Just normal (for winter weather) slow driving and caution worked for me.

I think in an older Prius, you need to be aware the car may not react like a "regular" gas powered car, and give a little more space when you pull out and the road surface may not be optimal.

Mr LaHood has since said his comments were a mistake.

tndriver, have you tried different tire pressures? You may find that a different pressure improves traction. Was this set of tires advertized to provide better traction on gravel?

What is going on here? Is everyone just trying to invent new possible defects with their Toyotas? Oooh Oooh! I've got one! If you run a red light with your Prius there is a chance you may get hit by another vehicle! At some point people need to exercise common sense when operating their vehicles whether it is a Toyota or a GM. I typically take the side of the consumer but this is getting stupid. BTW, I am not directing my frustration at the original poster. Just the entire hysteria that has enveloped the original issue.

I know other folks have the same thing happen. I know to expect it now but it is a bit of a pain in the back side to pull out into traffic and the throttle falls flat and you almost come to a stop. Thanks to folks who have tried to help will check the tire pressure and see if that helps. Any suggestions on tires that would give the best traction on my prius.

A minor correction: this would be traction control, not VSC. VSC comes into play when your car fails to go in the direction of the steering wheel. Traction control kicks off when the drive wheels slip.

Yes, I have the same problem, only it's not the new tires, the road is not wet and does not always have gravel, it can be a simple thing of turning onto a road at an incline with 1 front tire putting more pressure on the road than the other. It is not speed it is simple acceleration from a stop into traffic. I live in the country the road I am turning onto has traffic coming at 60-70 mph. It is dangerous.
