Since we can't beat em, and I'm talking about the media right now, I say we join em. They continue to glorify the sensational with their choice of spin and imagery so let's just beat them to the punch. I suggest from now on these terms get replaced.

    Braking System = Death Brakes

Acellerator Pedal = Head Towards The Light Foot Plunger

Cruise Conrol = The Wozniak Stick

Traction Control = The Grim Gripper

If I've offended you I appologize, if I haven't offended you, wow you are as sick as I am, seek help.

Can we start calling the side panels the "Death Panels"?

Don't forget the thousands of EMTs who die each year attending to Prius accidents.
Bright Orange Cables => Glow Wires of Death

cD now stands for Coefficient of Death!

I'm going to go out and get a bumper sticker that reads:
    [Tailgate at your own risk]
    [I HAVE PRIUS BRAKES! ]

There's lots of intentional misleading right now. It's quite irritating seeing posts coming out of no where that are intended to cause harm. The hate for Toyota, who planned ahead, has been building for quite awhile. Even GM once talked about the difficulties the next decade would bring, but they didn't take that future seriously. Now it has arrived. So those attempts to level the playing field are understandable, but quite inappropriate.

I'm curious to see how much all this lingers. How long will some continue to raise doubt? How much will some portray rare circumstances as common? Will this provide competitors an excuse for emissions & efficiency to be disregarded?

We have already found out that if you hold the accel-button on the cruise-control rather than just a brief push, it will build up requests and the gradual acceleration gives the impression of it being a random event... even though you actually caused it... an unintended user-behavior the software could be changed to accommodate.

What's next? Raising awareness & expectations could backfire and harm the entire industry. Sadly, many take what they read at face value. And with so many vague & misleading reports now, restoring credibility could take a very long time.

I came up with two back in the summer of 2000, when I was impatiently awaiting the delivery of my first Prius and haven't found the need for more:

"Stealth" - They never knew what hit'em... figuratively & literally.

"My car sips gas. Your car sucks." - That speaks for itself.

Unfortunately, the losers of the fallout will ultimately be the future owners of Toyota vehicles.

Remember how we all complained about the lawyer-edited manual? (like.. be careful not to pinch your fingers when closing the centre console lid). This will basically force Toyota to write more idiot-proof manuals (thus wasting more ink and paper) and put even more restrictions on other items they think people will stupidly try (maybe that's why they locked the nav in motion)

Oh.. I forgot to add a joke:

"Toyota. Moving Forward.... even if you don't want to"

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic. I want to hear what comes out of the upcoming hearings in Washington. But I'm really optimistic that Toyota will emerge from this.

Once a problem was identified with the pedals, Toyota really had no choice but to launch the recall. The Media fall-out is the media fall-out.

I think if Toyota can just fix this problem, and move on to a period of relative normalacy, then credibility I think will rebound very quickly. I think for many reasons, great history, almost a engrained part of many peoples lives, and also the fact that people are joking about it.

In a way the joking about it is a step towards recovery. It's kind of a national psyche, saying, this has happened, we were scared, insecure about it, but we are going to laugh at it and start to not take it so serious.

I don't think raising expectations and awareness is anything but ultimately good. In the history of auto manufacturing it was events like The Ford Pinto that raised standards across the industry. Ford is still here right?

Again maybe I'm being too optimistic but I even think this could ultimately be good for Toyota. My thinking is they are going to have the most thoroughly tested gas pedals in the industry.

Also I just have to ask, did you mean to post this reply here? It seems very out of synch with this thread.

    LMAO so far!

I'm sure hyper-milers consider the lack of braking a feature...

    Faster than a stopping Prius!

Able to glide over single potholes without slowing down!

Your car is green. Mine just requires green lights.
