Prius - 2nd thoughts?

My 2010 build is currently at sea from Japan and due to dock here in Australia next week. Am I concerned by the media frenzy about Toyota. No.

Simply put I bought a Prius because it is the leading edge hybrid of the day and nothing else is in the same league at present. Even on the random off chance that they are recalled for an update, it would not be the first vehicle that I have owned that has happened to. Jaguar, Ford, Ford again (!) amongst others. Its no big deal.

There is still not another car that I would remotely want to buy enough to be bothered to cancel the order.

 

Toyota won't release a new car if there's a recall.

 

I put an order in on Tursday for a Prius T-Spirit (v spec?). Not had any second thoughts at all. It should arrive in April. My present vehicle is a Dodge Nitro, this has had more problems than any other car I have owned in 24 years. For example: 2 engine failures, front brake disc faults. None of these types of fault caused any mention in forums or the press let alone Dodge. I am still excited about the Prius and can't wait for it to arrive.

 

Totally in the same situation as you are. I had intended to buy back in November, but waited for the New Year. I began making financial preparations in January right when accelerator recall began. I really wanted to buy my 2010 Prius this month, but was suspicious of a Prius recall due to the number of owners reporting various issue with their car, and now we're pretty much on the edge of an official announcement from Toyota for a Prius recall. It's already leaked/in the press in Japan.

I really should be looking at other options like Suburus, etc., but I admit that I really had my heart set on the Prius. All that has happened with Toyota is very disappointing. We'll see what happens.

 

I'd be thrilled if I were ready to buy a Prius now (I'm not ready yet, maybe by year's end or in 2011) because I'd be thinking, "Woo-Hoo I can likely negotiate hard on these bad boyz..or at least get more leeway on price than, say, 4 months ago." I'd say the time is right to make a deal on a new Prius (or any Toyota, for that matter). The cars will get fixed and the company will be fine. And right now, consider this additional negotiating 'leverage.'

 

I, for one, am having second thoughts.

I regret that I had not bought my Prius sooner so I could have had even more time getting all the enjoyment I am out of owning it and all the while getting fantastic gas mileage.

 

I am waiting for Toyota for some discount on Prius.

My next one will be a Prius, or nothing. :rockon:

 

I felt the same. I'd rather have my Prius with possible brake issues than anything else. I didn't buy a car because I needed to.

It's the third smartest thing I have ever purchased.

Here's another viewpoint. I've driven about 100 of the new Gen 3's. I can't make this happen under any circumstances. A coworker did experience it back in July, understood it, compensated and now is only vaguely aware of it. She showed me yesterday what it was as she drove. She felt it in the controls, I didn't feel it as the passenger.

I took her vehicle and drove it over the same exact route and conditions and I couldn't make it occur.

I sincerely believe that I could take anyone's Prius where that owner has experienced the issue drive it over the same conditions and not experience it myself. Why? I'm used to the technology. I understand it.

My coworker was surprised the first two times she 'felt' it and now she never notices it - if it even occurs. She, like me, may very well have found the methodology to avoid making the vehicle react in an unusual manner. This is one of the reasons why so many from here who've been driving the Prius in several iterations over 10 yrs and literally hundreds of thousand of miles don't see where the problem is. We've adjusted to the new technology. It works perfectly.

One final simile. Buying new hybrid technology from whichever manufacturer you choose is exactly like going to any auto store in the US trading in your xxxx Auto Transmission vehicle for a new state-of-the-art 6 speed Manual Transmission. If you've never driven a MT you will soon end up stranded. If you've only been given a few cursory lessons on how to drive a MT you will go onto the roads and you will be a hazard to yourself and every other living thing around you.

So ask yourself, if you are about to buy this vehicle,

• 'Am I ready to drive it?'
• 'Do I know how it works?'
• 'Do I know how to control it?'
• 'Do I know how it's different from every other vehicle that I've driven til now?'

I will buy Prius' and their successors for as long as I drive for the rest of my life. Apologist? Fine go ahead, I've got a thick skin. I simply understand the vehicle and how it works.

 

Buy low, folks. Great time to buy a Prius.

 

For all of you having 2nd thoughts about prius, buy a ford hybrid, just was on the news that they have brake problems.
I am so sick and tired of this TOYOTA slandered like the media is doing.Folks, all of the recalled Toyotas were made in the USA. I think the owners of gmc is out to discredit Toyota ,its more political than anything. I stand by toyota, my Prius(2010)
is undoubtly the best car I have had.Not a bit of problems except,low tire light on cold mornings, and the door ajar "park your car at once" light

 

This is my second Prius and if I had an accident tomorrow I would run right out with my check and buy another one......

 

I believe Hyundai, not Ford, GM, or Honda are the most likely brand to benefit from this whole mess because many people running away from Toyota still wants to avoid American companies and many can't accept getting a car form the main competitor (Honda) either.

Well, the new Sonata loaded (limited edition) looks very sharp... my neighbor just got one and I rode with him this morning a little bit... it is infinitely more comfortable and luxurious than the Prius and he is getting close to 30 MPG combined MPG! Very impressive!

Cost? The same I paid for my Prius III with no options! Unbelievable!

Hyundai is really ready to take over....
