I would like to jump in on this convo -

Here's the way it looks from the outside looking in:

You bought a very hi-tech, cutting edge, very green, good for the planet, super engineered Prius. You bought it from a very dependable, been around for many many years, one of the highest trusted companys, ..Toyota.

    ---then you had a problem.

---Toyota is working on a fix for YOU. It may be out NOW.

My question to YOU, the Toyota owner........ So what's the problem?

There is distinct line between the people who actually own a Prius and those who are either trolling or just love to bandwagon hop. Those of us who own the car see it as just another easy fix recall that many manufactures have to deal with. On the other side of the line are the media-influenced type who love to spout off opinions regardless of validity or who just thrive on controversy. Take a quick look at the post count and join dates of the most vocal "Prius doom and gloom" posters and you'll see what i mean.

I'm not saying there isn't a problem but some of these threads and posts are downright hilarious. :D

This issue is nowhere as serious or as real as the 04 / 05 stalling issue. That was the first-year sky-is-falling issue on the Gen 2s. The difference though was that the technology was still unproven in the minds of the public so it was a real 'Ah HA, I told you so. It doesn't work.' moment for lots of owners.

That issue was resolved in a couple of months by a simple reflashing ( Hellooo ) and nobody can remember it and nearly nobody herein has any idea of what it was about. It was fixed and life moved on. So it will be on this issue.

Maverick: "My Grandpappy used to say that a flame is hottest right next to it. Move far away from it and you can't feel any heat." [well he might have said something like that]. 2 yrs from now these pretenders and trolls will be annoying somebody else on some other site.

The problem is that Toyota sold the car with "issues" that should have been remedied before the first Prius rolled off the assembly line. Instead, it has taken them six months to engineer a fix and still they remain SILENT on the issue. I did not buy a 3G Prius so that I could be a "test driver" for Toyota.

Do you remember back in the day when it was advised never to buy a Detroit automobile in the first model year because your car be laden with problems? I thought of that in the back of my mind in October but thought well this a Toyota PLUS it's manufactured in Japan... No worries. I was sorely mistaken.

I am glad to learn about the Congressional investigation into Toyota.

Ya know I think the bakery's are charging us too much for cake! Plus the cake makes me fat and they never warned me the cake would make me fat. I think we all need to get together and start a class action lawsuit.

Until then I am keeping my cake in the kitchen.

Now I can't eat my cake if I have to keep it in my kitchen, how dare they! I feel my cake has gone down in value - they need to compensate me for this because you see...I want to have my cake and eat it too.

Yes, those guys should be able to get to the bottom of this in two or three sound bites. They have been remarkably efficient lately. Good call! Why is this feeling of glee not unexpected? Good luck on your class action. Come back in 2030 and let us know how the suit is going.

I detest class action lawsuits, hell I detest most lawsuits. Americans are so willing to make lawyers rich and courts uphold the right for individuals to be stupid like the hot coffee suits and more.

Toyota is working on these things, they are not the only car maker to have serious recalls. I believe that in the current economy the poor response from American consumers in regards to manipulation of gas prices has not had the desired effect on car sales, so pounding real and imagined issues with Toyota vehicles has become the newest tactic to shore up "American" car dealers.

Well, there is not much more to say, except, people, "Please do not feed the trolls", if we don't feed them, they will starve to death :)

I do not disagree with ANYBODY that truly feels this issue is a safety concern for them or their family and even parks the car until a fix is released.

My point being, there seems to be no reason for so many people to be so upset about this. Toyota is fixing the problems now, and will stand behind you for many years to come.

I have owned many Toyotas, and will put them up against anything else made. I fully trust the company to do the right thing. And I don't understand where all these threads are coming from over a fix that is on its way now.

In chicago, I have to drive the car slow because of all the snow and ice. in slow driving, i brake slowly too. All the salt and snow creates pothole. So driving slow, light brake, running over a pothole equals momentary loss of control. i think it is a safety issue.

If you check the Google Ads incorporated near the top of the pages in this thread you'll see an attorney has already started paying Google to troll for class action clients. It might not come up every time but if you refresh enough you'll get it. Might as well refresh a few extra times since he's no doubt paying per impression ;-)

Seriously though, I just don't get the hysteria around this. Yeah the car has a quirk with the brakes, I've experienced it. They will fix it. I don't feel unsafe driving the car. Whatever.

My wife is trying to get our oldest son to sell his car so she can give him her Civic and buy a Prius - now she's hoping it happens really soon so she can take advantage of the herd mentality and get a really good deal on it.

Certain people are justified in being upset. I jumped ship from Honda to Prius (I thought the Insight was not as high quality interior finish plus it was like a Prius wannabe and I wanted the real deal). That being said Honda would have been out in front of this issue and the larger Toyota issue. You say Toyota is fixing the problem? I haven't heard a word from them... Have you?

What we really need right now is... a good solid 12 month dose of $5 / gallon gas. Bring it on and see how the media and trolls change their tunes.

"Oh baby , I love you and I'm soooo sorry I said all those bad things about you back in January. I didn't really mean them. I was just upset, please don't go. I promise I'll become a Prius apologist anytime, anywhere, just don't leave me now."

According to Danny (the admin here), this is a copy/paste of the latest:

    "Heads up!

    #7:00pm Update#
An anonymous source within Toyota has told PriusChat that "A fix for the 2010 Prius brake issue is on the way." It is unknown if the fix will be in the form of a full-fledged recall or a SSC. It sounds like this issue will be cleared up pretty quickly."

Does Danny actually have time to do anything other than monitor PriusChat and these issues at a time like this??
Bless Danny for managing this site and keeping us informed.

So a loss af braking power is OK? My wife experiences this every day. It's not safe, she could hit another car because of it. I want her and my kids to be safe. We have parked her car until there is a fix. Fortunately I have another to drive.

Sneezy read my post a little closer. I said I do NOT DISAGREE with you if you feel it to be a safety concern.
