New Prius on order. Recommendations?

    I have a leased 2007 Prius whose lease is up in March. Last month I put a deposit on a 2010 Prius. The car is at the port of entry currently and will soon be at the dealership. The negotiated price was done last month before the recall of the 2010 vehicles. I am less concerned about the quality of the vehicle and more concerned that my purchase price reflects any decrease in the current selling price of the new vehicles (due to reduced demand secondary to perceived quality of the brand and vehicle). Does anyone have any up to date information on demand for the new cars and any price changes? Would you attempt to renegotiate, and if unsuccessful, would you get your deposit back and hope for a lower price? Because my 2007 is leased, any reduction in its value is moot. Thanks for any thoughts.

    I don't think it makes any difference in the immediate short term and you lose thousands of dollars once you drive off the lot anyway.

    Seems timing aint so much on your side. Funny, it never is.

    It's fair to negotiate but keep in mind Toyota has not publicly announced any rebates towards future purchases of new vehicles (although the rumor is a $1000 rebate). Also, since you are leasing the best you might get is a lower lease payment.

    The 2007 is leased, but the OP didn't say he's leasing the 2010.

    I honestly don't think the Prius resale value will be affected in any way in the near future. It's all speculation.

    The AAA price hasn't dropped recently so I don't believe you have any leverage. They know you need a car & soon. If the sale is cancelled & the deposit returned you'll either have to find another car configured your way elsewhere or buy a different configuration if they have someone waiting for "your" car. Yes, Prius do sit on the lot longer than they have but they still move. It only takes the wrong 5-10 minutes to have "your" car sold to someone else.

    According to your profile you are in Dallas. If you are obtaining a Prius from the metroplex area you will be obtaining one through the Gulf States Region. As such you are eligible for a $1000.00 owner loyalty rebate through the end of February.
    That is an additional discount of $1000.00 on top of your already negotiated price.

    As far as demand in the Gulf States region. The Prius has seen no noticable decline in interest or sales in the region. It remains a popular vehicle and will more than likely continue to be a highly demanded vehicle. Prius inventories at dealers in Gulf States remain relatively low with good demand currently.

    According to my dealer daily status there are a total of 5 G3 Prius V models with the NY option scheduled for Texas for the month of February that aren't marked sold.
