Difference between headlight assembly with HID and w/o HID (halogen)

    Hi yall!

    Recently, my 2008 prius was hit in a parking lot by a truck.
    So, I am thinking about replacing the broken headlight assembly by myself.
    But, I am not sure that there is any difference between one with HID and one without HID.

    Should I buy one that is clearly marked with HID, Or can I just buy
    one for the regular halogen lamp assembly and then use some parts from my broken assembly (Mine is with HID).

    Any advices would greatly be appreciated.

    I think you should try to get the one that is clearly HID. They are different and there may be differences that are not readily apparent, but would prevent you from just transferring parts over from your broken assembly.

    HID. You need it for your high beams (a shutter activates that) which is not present in the halogen headlight assembly (they use a dual-filament bulb)

    They're very different. In addition to the high-beam shutter, the HID housing has a bay for the high-voltage ballast on the bottom and an auto-leveling motor.
