Updated: Silverstars blew... again (Replaced with Phillips X-Treme Power bulbs. See Pg 2)

    US SilverStars? They produce less light than the OEM bulbs. Absolute waste of money unless you prefer less of a different color light.

    Tideland, how did the X-Treme bulbs hold out? It looks like you might not have your old Prius anymore... I'm interested in these bulbs. I've had Silverstars before and liked them but I'll stay away from them in my Prius.

    Same lifespan as the Silverstars but MUCH cheaper ($75/pair for Silverstars at Canadian Tire vs. $55ish depending on exchange rate for a pair of X-Treme Power).

    I do recommend the X-Treme Power. They. Are. Bright!!

    So the Phillips X-Treme bulbs only lasted about a year or so? I was thinking of ordering some of those for my Ford F250 Super Duty.

    I was planning on putting HID's in the headlights on there, but because it's a truck and it sits higher, I don't want to have the stray light from the HID's going all over the place.

    In my case, yes but it's because we have DRLs in Canada so they're on every time the car is on. I think the F250, if it does have DRLs, would use the high beam at reduced intensity so your low beams are only on when it's dark (or whenever you turn them on) so they should last longer.

    I replaced the original headlights with Silvania Silverstars I got from the local Kragens 4 months ago. Both bulbs have burned out in the last week...

    I need to find a better replacement bulb.

    Halogens in these cars are horrible. I would just spend the extra $150 and do an HID retrofit. The output difference is nothing short of amazing. They are even better thank the LED headlights on the Geniii V!

    Many GM cars w/DRLs do so by running the high beams at low brightness. I've had at least one GM rental that did that.

    Yup but you'll need dual headlights for that. The Gen 2 only had one with a dual filament bulb so the low beam was used and hence the shorter bulb life.
