Perhaps each rant post should subtract for your total post count. Mine would be at about -6000 right now.

Definitely not. We want to encourage posting rants in the rant forum. We just don't want to give post credit for it.

I still think it's a slippery slope. I guess a separate forum or forums for Rants, Complaints might be valid. Because I agree sometimes you just want to rant on an issue that usually has nothing to do with Prius or Toyota.

I guess what I think is dangerous is creating a sub-forum for "Negativity". Mostly because I think negativity is often a needed part of debate and evaluation...within any thread. As much as we might not want to hear, something we don't want to hear, sometimes we need to hear it. I'm afraid defining a seperate place to confine what someone defines as negativity is not "welcoming trolls" it's dangerously too close to excluding opinion we do not want to hear or see to a place where we don't have to hear or see it. I don't think that's good.

Also I think it muddies the waters of definition. One mans "Rant" is another mans "Legitimate Beef". One mans "Troll" is another mans "This is honestly how I feel" person. Who applies this definition?

Rant's-Complaints...maybe I can buy that. I have ranted in this forum and when I'm awake and self-aware enough I even define it as such within my own post.

I don't argue that people don't come in here with complaints. So as a specific definition of a forum I suppose that could fly as well.

I just think it starts to approach dangerous territory when you start advocating for separate enviroments to be applied to individuals and individual thought and opinion. It can be presented under the guise or protocal of definition but what it too often becomes is a tool of exclusion, which I think is dangerous.

Take your complaint over to the rant forum.

Another car enthusiast forum I'm on has a separate forum they call Fight Club. Threads gone bad get moved there. Pretty much anything goes in there. For the most part, it's un-moderated, but there have been a few bans for those going really out of line. It pretty much runs itself, and produces the occasional epic thread where someone gets really, really owned.

True. What would be the point of coming here without that, except perhaps for the occasional sheep joke.
