well what do you think about that now for first time in years this happend
    part of the global warming?
the warming part of global warming can also mean melting of the northpole and disturbens of the ocean water flows because of this.
    and a new ice age..

    or

just next 15 years of snow and then again 15 years of hotter.

anyone also used the prius ( exept for those already posted here ) during power out?

What I think is that this post makes no sense! Perhaps you would like to do some editing to make it literate.

If you are trying to conclude that because there is rare (but not unheard of snow) in pan handle Florida, this is evidence that global warming is not happening, I would conclude that you are woefully ignorant both of the difference between weather and climate, as well as the dynamics of world climate change.

At the same time there is snow in Florida, the Pacific NW has had the warmest January and early February EVER! Are the two issues related? Probably IMHO? Is either (by itself) evidence of anything other than an anomaly? No!

The weather's been pretty strange, alright. Not that it's definitive proof of climate change all by itself, but the increasing anomalies and extremes are cause for concern. 'Winter' in Vancouver is relative at the best of times, compared to the rest of Canada, but this year is especially warm. We may as well give medals for mud wrestling instead of skiing.

note to icarus...English is not Dutchman's first language. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't know the first thing about speaking Dutch. ;)

    My apologies for inference.

That said, I think the sub-text (based on posting history) that his post is meant to bolster an anti global warming agenda.

Actually, my impression was the opposite (that the OP was saying the current winter is caused by global climate change). But we could both be reading something into it (I'm not attacking or defending either the OP or you, just indicating how different readers can see different things). Since I'm not that familiar with his previous posts, I took this on face value.

My friend who is chair of the Geosciences Dept. at FHSU patiently points out to me that one season does not a trend make, but that it is still possible the increasingly radical nature of weather patterns may be a result of climate change (it fits previous cases in the fossil and ice records).

As for using the Prius to generate house current, much has been written here on the forum about it, and I agree with a lot of those that conclude it is more efficient to buy a small generator for emergencies. I plan to buy a Honda 1000. A friend has a pair of them (you can buy one with synchronization and one without, and use one or both at the same time) and they work great to supply power to his summer mountain trailer when off the grid. I don't know how much it costs for a reliable aftermarket system to allow the Prius to manufacture house current, but I believe the Honda is about $800, and it is ideal for sensitive electronic equipment (computers, etc).

Snow? What snow? Weather here just south of San Francisco has been very normal. Overcast in the morning, clearing to mostly blue sky. Temperature in the mid 60's (20 C?). It has been raining enough lately that the water level at a local reservoir came up to within about 3 feet of overflowing the spillway. The water district people had been banging the "conserve water" drums a few months ago, but several storms calmed them down. Sorry about Florida...

We had 4" of snow on the coast of NC for the first time in a few years. Warmed up and started melting today and will probably be gone tomorrow. My kind of snow!

It was really a beautiful winter site while it lasted. A lot of parents with young kids in the yards building snowmen and snow forts.

Luckily we never lost power but others around us did.

    PL,

Read some other posts in the environmental threads by the OP and see what you think.

If I am wrong,, my apologies.

I wouldn't have guessed Hawaii as the only state without snow. Unlike Florida, Mauna Kea regularly gets snow.

Is Hawaii unseasonably warm for the same reasons as the Pacific Northwest and the Vancouver Olympics?

Spokane is having an especially mild winter, after having had a severe winter followed by an especially severe winter. The implication of global climate change may be that we are moving from several hundred years of relatively stable weather (including the entire industrial period of human civilization!) into a period of increasingly erratic weather.

Less than one degree increase in average global temperature can translate into a disruption of previously consistent patterns, resulting in large fluctuations, both up and down, in local weather from season to season, in terms of temperature and precipitation. We could see higher highs in one season and lower lows in another; more precipitation than normal in one season and less in another. Such fluctuations always exist, but they could become drastic, resulting in severe disruptions in agriculture, affecting economics and health. Such economic disruptions would affect the poor more than the rich, and could lead to social upheaval in underdeveloped countries, spilling over into more and more support for fringe movements.

Of course even a fraction of a degree is already giving us melting of global ice reserves on a massive scale, which will affect coastal cities everywhere. Anyone who lives where rivers freeze in winter knows how break-up comes rather suddenly. The ice becomes warmer and warmer as spring comes on, and then suddenly it breaks and is gone in a matter of days. If the ice cap on Greenland were to reach that stage and then melt over the course of, say, ten years, it would be a global disaster as sea level surged upwards.

It may already be too late to do anything about it, so whether you think we should make a concerted effort now, or just enjoy the good times while they last, may depend on whether you have kids and whether you want them to at least have a chance of avoiding the consequences of a climate catastrophe, or simply a gradual reduction in quality of life as everything becomes more difficult.

? a anti global warming agenda
    no way

i started this topic because i read on CNN that 49 out of 50 states have snowfall
and the message : this was exeptional.

so i am intressed in what pc members think about this and ofcourse because of the major? power outages ?? if there where any prius drivers that used the prius to power the home.

i also think that maybe the snow is maybe part of the global warming.?
where warming of the earth disrups ocean flows is now making it snow more and at places where normally maybe its not?

its just a opinion not a fact and wanted to share that to see the reactions of others.

i dont see any reason for your first post in this topic to reacted like that?

i am not sure what your mean but ok.. if you think so:) thats your right to do so.
just like its mine to give it to :D

post like this what i waited for.. like the others to ofcourse that really went into the topic title.

I went back and re-read a number of Flying white dutchman's posts in the environmental threads. Depending on the post, it is not entirely clear where you come down on the whole issue. From some of your posts, you came across (by my reading and memory) as a global warming denier,,hence my skepticism in my earlier post.

That said, I will give you the benefit of my doubt and sincerely apologize for "going off half cocked".
